Are you looking for a varied job in a friendly team? During their shifts, our visitor guides perform a variety of tasks in the Espresso Bar, at the information desk, at the ticket counter, and in the museum shop. No two days are the same! You’ll also occasionally assist with the Allard Pierson’s own programming and commercial rental activities.

What you will be doing

As a visitor guide at the Allard Pierson, you are the face of the museum. You’ll welcome visitors with enthusiasm, assist them at the information desk and ticket counter, happily serve a delicious cappuccino in our café, and inspire visitors in the museum shop. You’ll ensure that every visitor feels welcome and leaves the museum with a smile.

The main tasks are:

• welcome visitors warmly at the entrance, information desk, and ticket counter, and enthusiastically guide them on their way through the museum;
• Performing food and beverage service tasks in the museum café, such as preparing coffee, sandwiches, etc.;
• Engage visitors in the museum shop and, together with colleagues, create a pleasant, well-maintained, and inviting museum environment.

Here’s what we’re asking

As a visitor guide, you are the face of the museum. You have a welcoming, service-oriented attitude and help ensure our visitors receive a warm welcome. You have strong communication skills, work well with others, and feel at home in a dynamic cultural environment. In addition, you can easily switch between different tasks, such as food service, working the cash register, and providing information to visitors. You:

• are flexible;
• You can work independently and accurately;
• stays on top of things during peak visitor times;
• You are good at improvising and have a problem-solving mindset
• have an interest in art, culture, or heritage;
• is committed to ensuring a positive visitor experience.

Here's what we offer

For this position, we are offering a contract for 16 to 24 hours per week for a period of one year, with a two-month probationary period. If you prove to be a good fit, this will be followed by a permanent position.

Depending on your relevant experience at the start of employment, your salary will range from €3,004 to €3,465 gross per month, based on a full 38-hour workweek. This does not include the 8% vacation pay and 8.3% year-end bonus. TheCollective Labor Agreement for Dutch Universitiesapplies.

The Allard Pierson in Amsterdam is the research institute and museum that manages the University of Amsterdam’s heritage collections. It serves as a multifaceted center for education, research, and exhibition. It brings together a unique combination of collections that shed light on the history of culture, science, and society, from antiquity to the present day. The strength of the Allard Pierson lies in the great diversity of its collections. It includes archaeological collections from ancient Egypt, Greece, and the Near East, among others, as well as extensive special collections in the fields of cartography, book history, graphic heritage, and the performing arts. This broad scope makes it possible to draw connections between different eras, disciplines, and perspectives. Through exhibitions, public programs, educational activities, and events, the museum connects the past and the present. Each year, the museum welcomes a broad and international audience of visitors, students, researchers, and tourists.
