Diversity and inclusion are essential for a museum that remains relevant today. That is why we are looking for a Diversity & Inclusion Program Manager who, with vision, connection, and decisiveness, will contribute to an organization where everyone can participate.

“The Van Gogh Museum inspires a diverse audience with the life and work of Vincent van Gogh and his era.” All employees contribute to this mission through their own expertise. Together, we are making great strides and remain open to what is happening around us. We enjoy being at the forefront and collaborate closely with others to achieve this. We focus both on our immediate surroundings and on the international community.

The Van Gogh Museum’s Presentation and Programming Group is tasked with translating the content and scholarly knowledge of the Van Gogh Museum and the Mesdag Collection for the general public in order to inspire and move them. We do this through target-audience-specific educational and interpretive resources, exhibitions, and publications. In doing so, we strive to create an organization and programming that is inclusive and provides space for diverse perspectives and experiences.

For the Presentation and Programming Group, we are looking for a:

Diversity & Inclusion Program Manager

16 hours per week

What will you be doing?

As the Diversity & Inclusion Program Manager, you will play a driving and monitoring role, focused on progress and policy development in the areas of Diversity, Inclusion, Equity, and Connection. You report to the Head of Presentation and Programming but work organization-wide to strengthen inclusive practices in the organizational culture and public programming, in collaboration with the relevant department and group heads. The four Ps—Personnel, Public, Programming, and Partners—serve as your guiding principles. You play a unifying role and foster awareness and development in this area.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • You will coordinate and oversee the implementation and further development of the Diversity & Inclusion (D&I) policy plan.
  • You will monitor the progress of diversity and inclusion initiatives and advise senior management, the management team, and departments on further development.
  • You are the point of contact for the D&I policy within the organization.
  • You identify structural areas for improvement and translate them into concrete proposals and recommendations in collaboration with the D&I Advisory Board.
  • You are the chair of the D&I Advisory Board and facilitate discussions among representatives from various departments.
  • Together with your colleagues, you’ll organize meetings and activities that help raise awareness and promote knowledge sharing regarding D&I.
  • You will document, evaluate, and report on the progress and impact of the policy, and report to the Management Team and the executive board.

Who are you?

We are looking for a dedicated and collaborative colleague who is committed to fostering an inclusive organization and who brings the following qualities to the role:

  • You have proven knowledge and extensive experience with diversity and inclusion issues within cultural or social organizations.
  • You have knowledge of workplace safety, HR, and accessibility
  • You have experience with program coordination and working with various stakeholders within an organization.
  • You have strong communication skills and know how to bring different perspectives together.
  • You have a good understanding of organizational dynamics and know how to navigate a complex organization effectively.
  • You work independently, but you also know how to build connections and foster collaboration.
  • You know how to effectively use your knowledge and experience to drive change.

Where will you end up?

In the heart of Amsterdam, you’ll find yourself in a cultural and commercial work environment where you can seize every opportunity to bring out the best in yourself and your team. The Museum Collective Bargaining Agreement applies. The full-time salary (36 hours) ranges from €4,131 to €5,561 gross per month, based on education and experience, with pay scale 11 applying. In addition, we offer benefits such as vacation pay, a year-end bonus, a Museum Card, an iPhone, and a laptop, and you’ll have access to a health benefits plan (150 euros per year).

Are you coming along?

Have you read this job posting with enthusiasm and would you like to join our team? Then come on board! You can apply via DigiHR > Current Job Openings. If you’d like to know more, please contact Astrid Hertog at a.hertog@vangoghmuseum.nl. The first round of interviews will take place on July 28 or July 30.

Don't wait too long to apply!

This job opening will remain open until we have enough candidates. Once that happens, we’ll take the posting offline and begin screening applicants. Want to be in the running for an invitation? Apply soon, because once the job opening closes, you won’t be able to apply anymore. All candidates will be notified about the next steps.

We are an organization for everyone, where we embrace the widest possible range of people. We believe that diversity is the foundation of creativity, inspiration, and innovation. We are committed to embodying our mission within our organization to be as accessible and approachable as possible to as many people as possible. Of course, it doesn’t matter what your name is, where you’re from, what you look like, or what you believe in. So we’re here for you too, and you’re more than welcome to apply!
