ARTIS is a gathering place where we bring nature closer to people in creative ways and facilitate discussion about how humans value, understand, and treat nature. Each year, more than 1.4 million people visit ARTIS Park, ARTIS Micropia, and ARTIS Groote Museum. The Audience & Programming cluster aims to create and ensure an optimal visitor experience and is responsible for all visitor-related operations. The cluster consists of the departments of Visitor Services, Volunteers & Educators, Park Management & Events, Marketing & Communications, and Education, Art & Heritage, and is responsible for the visitor catering services on behalf of ARTIS.
Since 1838, ARTIS has been a green oasis and gathering place in the heart of Amsterdam, where nature and culture come together. The historic ARTIS Park encompasses the zoo, the botanical garden, and the Planetarium. In addition, the ARTIS-Micropia museum inspires visitors with the invisible world of microbes, and the ARTIS-Groote Museum reveals the deeper connection between humans and nature. As a foundation and officially recognized charity, ARTIS is committed to strengthening our bond with nature, for a livable future for everyone.
From a Museum Night with 10,000 visitors to luxury dinners, gatherings, and exclusive evening openings, the Park Management and Events department is responsible for sales and the coordination of all operational matters related to the wide variety of events that take place in and around ARTIS. These events are diverse not only in form but also in the various locations that ARTIS has to offer. Think of dining in the new Aquarium, drinks with a view of the giraffes, toasting under the stars in the Planetarium, or an educational program in ARTIS-Micropia. In organizing these activities, you’ll work closely with colleagues from various departments—from fundraising to security and from ARTIS volunteers to the technical staff.
In addition to all these events, the department is responsible for monitoring the visitor experience on a daily basis.
Your responsibilities will include:
ARTIS believes in the power of inclusivity and diversity, just as in nature, and aims to reflect society as a whole—regardless of age, gender, sexual orientation, background, or faith. Together, we are working to create a livable world for everyone: now and in the future.

Imagine walking through the historic gates of ARTIS in the morning, where the gibbons welcome you with their songs. You’ll show the first visitors around, excited for the day ahead. Just like your work environment, your job is incredibly varied.
