More about this organization
Amsterdam-Amstelland Safety Region fire station at night, a modern building with illuminated windows and garage doors.

The built environment is evolving at a rapid pace. New building materials, the transition to renewable energy, and climate-adaptive construction all pose risks. These changes are outpacing updates to legislation. In this challenging role, you will have the opportunity to act as a proactive and results-oriented fire safety expert, bridging the gap between the necessary regulatory measures and risk mitigation through additional measures.

What you will be doing

You will evaluate structural, mechanical, and organizational fire safety measures for complex structures. You will also analyze and assess equivalence proposals. Furthermore, you will take a compliance- and risk-based approach to identifying measures you can implement—or have implemented—to make buildings and their surroundings as safe as possible. You will be able to present this advice persuasively, both verbally and in writing.

Every day, you write letters, hold meetings—for example, at a site planning table—or share your knowledge by giving presentations. You participate in relevant networks as well as various (national) working groups. You also have, or are developing, a specialization, such as high-rise construction, events, underground structures, or cultural heritage.

You identify bottlenecks and areas for improvement, and contribute ideas on knowledge development, quality improvement, and process efficiency. You research trends, assess the effectiveness of existing policies, and make recommendations regarding policy development. Finally, you ensure the effective transfer of knowledge and information within the department and to our colleagues in incident response, professional competence, and operational preparedness.

You'll recognize yourself in this

You’re confident and self-assured, and you’re an enthusiastic, creative, and enterprising person. You work independently but not in isolation, because above all, we’re looking for a sociable and fun colleague who’s a pleasure to work with.

You connect with others and have a knack for engaging and inspiring them with your enthusiasm. You know how to handle resistance and don’t let it throw you off balance. You are customer- and solution-oriented and are attuned to the organization and its dynamic environment.

You'll take this knowledge and experience with you

  • HBO-level academic and cognitive abilities
  • Completed training as a Fire Safety Specialist at the NIPV (or equivalent)
  • Extensive experience (5+ years) in complex plan review and risk-based consulting
  • Demonstrable knowledge of building regulations (Building and Environment Decree)
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Class B driver's license
