Designer

About the role 

As a designer, you’ll work as part of a team with designers, developers, data journalists, and data researchers on online publications, TV shows, and YouTube videos. You’ll be an integral part of an editorial team where design and motion graphics are taken seriously and sometimes serve as the starting point for innovative formats.  

You create interactive stories online, work on illustrations, animations, and motion graphics, and ensure consistency with the Pointer brand guidelines. 

• You offer suggestions for new ways of telling journalistic stories online;
• You think visually and have a good understanding of how to visualize information; 
• You create and select visuals for the articles and have a distinctive, personal style that aligns with Pointer’s brand identity; 
• You will serve as a full-fledged member of the editorial team and will be involved in the development of each production from the very beginning; 
• You will maintain and improve the corporate identity; 
• You create illustrations for online articles; 
• You'll help with animation for Instagram and YouTube videos, among other things. 

About you 

• We are looking for someone with at least 3 years of experience in visualizing information; 
• You are enthusiastic, creative, and able to collaborate effectively with other disciplines; 
• You think mobile first; 
• You have extensive experience with motion graphics;
• Illustrator, Figma, and After Effects hold no secrets for you. 
• If you have experience coding in HTML/CSS or other programming languages, that is a plus. 
• Experience with video is a plus; 
• Experience with interaction design, UX, user interface, and storytelling; 
• You are assertive, adaptable, and flexible. 

What we offer 

We are offering a 36-hour-per-week employment contract, initially for a period of one year (from October 14, 2024, through October 13, 2025, with the possibility of extension). 

In accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement for Broadcasting Personnel, this position is classified in pay scale G. The salary depends on education and experience and ranges from €3,118.48 to €4,757.41 per month for a full-time position of 36 hours per week. 

Other terms and conditions of employment include: 

• 8% vacation pay 
• 6% year-end bonus 
• a fixed mileage allowance or free commuting via public transportation using the NS Business Card with a Traject Vrij pass
• the option to swap public holidays 
• more than 5 weeks of vacation, prorated based on length of service
