Business Controller

 Business Controller (0.7–0.8 FTE)

Who are you?

As a business controller:

• Are you driven to master the role of controller?
• Are you a team player who works well in a team?
• You have strong communication skills, both verbal and written;
• You have strong consulting skills and a keen sense of organizational awareness;
• You have a relevant bachelor's or master's degree; for example, a bachelor's in Finance & Control, Business Economics, Accountancy, or a comparable field;
• You should preferably have work experience in the public sector;
• Are you flexible, able to handle stress, and capable of managing peak workloads?

What will you be doing?

As a business controller:

• You will serve as a sparring partner for the operational management of an assigned academy, advise on the academy’s financial and economic policy, and monitor its implementation;
• You will shape the administrative structure and organization of the various degree programs;
• You will be responsible for the planning and control process of the relevant academy or academies, in accordance with the functional guidelines issued by the AHK’s central control department;
• In collaboration with the operations management team, you will prepare draft (partial) budgets, monitor their implementation, and prepare financial forecasts (both in terms of content and finances);
• you will collaborate with relevant departments such as Human Resources and Information Management;
• You work for one or more academies but report to the Head of Group Control;
• you will contribute to central (AHK-wide) projects.

Who are we?

The Amsterdam University of the Arts (AHK) comprises the Breitner Academy, the Academy of Architecture, the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, the Netherlands Film Academy, the Reinwardt Academy, and the Academy of Theatre and Dance. Through a wide range of specialized higher professional education programs at the bachelor’s and master’s levels, the AHK prepares students for careers in the national and international fields of art, culture, and heritage. The programs are offered at various locations in the bustling center of Amsterdam.

Within the Amsterdam University of the Arts (AHK), support services are centralized within the Service Bureau, which consists of the following departments: Corporate Control, Central Administration and Procurement, IT, Information Management, Facilities and Management, Human Resources, and Education, Research, and Communication. The bureau employs more than ninety staff members.

The Group Control department advises the Executive Board on future opportunities and risks in the broadest sense. Its responsibilities include research, auditing, and compliance management, as well as financial policy and risk management. In addition, the department works on annual and multi-year plans and the organization’s budget. Corporate Control alerts the board to potential investments, monitors the budget, and advises on the university’s financial situation.

The position is classified in pay grade 11 in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement for higher professional education (staff member, advisory role-C, min

€3,881.09 to a maximum of 5,332.48 , gross per month for full-time employment). Employment and compensation are governed by the collective bargaining agreement for higher professional education (CAO-HBO); salary placement depends in part on education, experience, and most recent salary. This is initially a one-year appointment, with the possibility of extension. A comprehensive benefits package is offered.
