The Netherlands is eager for a green and healthy vision of the future. The question isn’t whether that story should be told, but how to tell it in a way that inspires people to get involved, participate, and contribute. At the Nature and Environment Federations, we work toward that vision every day. We bring together people who are building a society where green and healthy living, working, and daily life are a given—from community initiatives to government policy. Now is precisely the time to sharpen the focus of that shared story, make it more visible, and link it more strongly to fundraising. That’s why we’re looking for you.
As a Senior Communications Strategist, you will guide the joint positioning and external communications of the Nature and Environment Federations. You will work at the intersection of branding, content, and fundraising, bringing focus and coherence to our narrative. You will unify the work of 12 provincial federations into a single recognizable and distinctive positioning, without compromising their provincial distinctiveness. You are both a strategist and a builder: you develop the direction and translate it into concrete communication strategies, campaigns, and resources, together with colleagues in the federations. In doing so, you engage people in decisions and change.
Across the Netherlands, we inspire, connect, and empower people who want to build a society where green and healthy living, working, and daily life are the norm. By collaborating with local resident initiatives, supporting them, bringing them together, and, where necessary, devising new solutions ourselves, we demonstrate that there is another way. In this way, we are paving the way together toward a new normal. And we are making it clear all the way to the Cabinet: clean air, clean water, clean energy, healthy food, thriving outdoor spaces, and living landscapes.
The Nature and Environment Federations (NMF) serves as the national hub for 12 provincial federations where all our activities take place. We bring grassroots perspectives to the national level and strengthen collaboration among the 12 federations. In addition, we develop new programs and projects and provide a national platform and stage for our colleagues’ nature and environmental work. We actively focus on knowledge sharing and professional development so that we can make an even greater impact locally.
You can help us increase our social and fundraising impact by:
You’ll work closely with colleagues in fundraising, communications, and programs, serving as a link between the national and regional levels. You’ll join a dynamic and passionate team where your ideas are valued and where we work together toward a healthy living environment.
You’re both a strategic thinker and a doer. Someone who keeps an eye on the big picture, but also gets a kick out of the hands-on work.
We’d love to talk with you. If you have any questions or would like to discuss the role first, please contact Marije Breedveld at m.breedveld@natuurenmilieufederaties.nl. The application deadline is January 12, 2026. Please send your resume and cover letter to vacatures@natuurenmilieufederaties.nl. We are scheduling the first interviews for Tuesday, January 20, at our office in Utrecht.
In your cover letter, we’d like to hear about your experience with positioning and fundraising communications. Please describe one or more projects in which you made strategic decisions and translated them into action, and briefly explain what your role was and what the results were.
