More about this organization
Traffic accident involving a motorhome, a car, and an ambulance. Emergency responders and traffic cones are on the road.

A province with no traffic fatalities: that’s what you’ll be working toward in this advisory and coordinating role. A goal that brings daily satisfaction!

How do we ensure that everyone in the province of North Holland can get from A to B safely? This question is central to your role as a road safety advisor. In fact, you’ll be responsible for driving progress in this area to prevent as many traffic accidents as possible. And you’ll ensure that road safety is integrated with other major challenges, such as housing development. Impact guaranteed: you’ll be contributing to an issue that affects all of our residents and visitors.

Your job

Advising, connecting, coordinating, and prioritizing: in your role, you do it all. And you do it for an issue that affects everyone. As a province, we are all too aware of this. That is why, in collaboration with partners, weare driving road safety forward, with the ultimate goal of zero traffic fatalities by 2050. Wouldn’t it be great to advise colleagues from other departments and partners like the police, municipalities, and Rijkswaterstaat on this topic—whether they ask for it or not? You’ll do this in a province with a wide variety of infrastructure. For example, we maintain over 600 kilometers of roads, 250 kilometers of waterways, 50 kilometers of public transit tracks, 400 kilometers of bike paths, 10 locks, and about 550 bridges.

What does your work look like in practice? It’s varied! One moment you’re advising on permits for an exit route or on traffic measures for large-scale events like Mysteryland or Sail Amsterdam. The next, you’re making traffic decisions, while also taking on an advisory role in the objection and appeal process. In addition, you’ll be involved in the implementation of European legislation. And sometimes you’ll visit a location where a traffic accident recently occurred to assess whether measures are needed there. It’s clear that you’ll get to know our province well—and build a great network.

Here's what we offer

  • A gross monthly salary between €3,644.44 and €5,133.31 (pay grade 10) based on a 36-hour workweek. This does not include the Individual Choice Budget, which amounts to approximately 22% of your gross monthly salary and can be used, among other things, to take additional days off.
  • An annual pay raise of 3%, up to the top of your pay scale.
  • A lot of freedom, flexibility, and responsibility.
  • A good work-life balance: at our company, 36 hours is considered full-time. Would you like to work fewer hours? We’re open to discussing your options.
  • A good pension plan that the province helps fund.
  • A budget of €6,000 every five years for training. In addition, there are other learning opportunities, because your professional development is important to us. You can also use part of the budget to stay energized and fit on the job.
  • A temporary position for up to 3 years.

And that’s not all. Visitwww.noord-holland.nl/werkenbijto find out what else you can expect as an employee at Noord-Holland.

This is where you'll be working

At the Province of North Holland, you’re building the future. Every day, you and 1,400 colleagues work together to create a beautiful, pleasant, and safe living and working environment for nearly 3 million residents of North Holland. We do this in an innovative way. We promote and facilitate housing construction, smart mobility, the energy transition, large-scale nature development, and the latest technologies, such as smart apps. And your future is also central to us. You’ll have every opportunity to choose the direction you want to take and to realize your ambitions. We’ll support you every step of the way.

You will be part of the Network Management and Use (NWG) division, where we are committed to the clean, smart, and safe use of provincial roads and waterways. You will share the workload with the two other traffic safety advisors and consult with them on specific cases. Together, you will also continue to expand your knowledge of this field. You’ll be part of Permits and Exemptions, a close-knit team of eight experienced colleagues who are always ready to help you out. This team spirit, combined with a healthy sense of humor, creates a relaxed work atmosphere. Our conversations aren’t just about work; we care about each other’s joys and sorrows. We also regularly have lunch together and sometimes get to know each other in a whole new way during the annual industry and team outings.

This is you

  • Eager to learn: Youdon’t need to know everything about road construction and maintenance, traffic engineering, or legal guidelines going in, but you especially enjoy delving into these topics.
  • Proactive: Youidentify problems, bring them to light, and propose effective solutions.
  • Flexible: You’regood at adapting and prioritizing your work, even when your workday doesn’t go as planned.
  • Strong communication skills: You clearly convey your recommendations at various levels both within and outside our organization and can convince stakeholders of what is and isn’t possible.
  • Socially aware: You have a keen eye for social and political developments and know how to maintain strong, lasting relationships with our partners.

You also have:

  • A bachelor’s or master’s degree in a relevant field, such as transportation engineering, mobility, law, or urban planning.
  • Experience in the field of traffic safety.
