We are looking for two strategic advisors to join the Administrative Support and Communications department. You will work for the Mayor and Aldermen of the City of Arnhem, where you will serve as a liaison between your alderman, the organization, and the city and its residents. You will contribute ideas from the perspective of the alderman’s role and responsibilities and support his or her performance. In this complex work environment, you will create a sense of calm and clarity for your alderman and ensure that the right information is available to them at the right time.
What will you be doing?
High-level strategic consulting
With over 200 subject-matter advisors within the City of Arnhem, our aldermen are inundated with a considerable amount of information. It’s your job to support your alderman in assessing and streamlining this information. Easier said than done, because there’s a great deal going on in our city, and various interests are at play. You are able to translate signals and trends from society, the news, and the organization into action, taking charge of coordination yourself when necessary. With your critical eye, you contribute ideas on the content, form, and strategy to be chosen for various issues. In doing so, you act as a sparring partner and confidant for the alderman. In addition, you have an unerring sense of what your alderman wants or needs and consult with the colleagues responsible for the relevant content.
As an alderman’s advisor, you maintain a broad perspective and are able to identify connections between the various issues within your alderman’s or the municipal executive’s portfolio. You seamlessly coordinate between internal departments to establish links regarding current issues. You contribute constructively to council documents. You support, advise, and oversee the preparation of your alderman(s), ensuring they have the right information in the right place at the right time. You respect the substantive responsibilities of your colleagues within the organization and, through your strategic advice, contribute to effective collaboration between the administration, the city council, and the organization.
Who are we?
You will become part of a team of alderman advisors, all of whom support one or more aldermen. The team consists of energetic professionals who are always there for one another. They are not afraid to call each other out on their behavior, constantly share information, support one another in solving problems, and work as a self-managing team within the Administrative Support and Communications Department. Good to know: as an alderman’s advisor, you’ll form a close-knit team around the alderman together with the spokesperson and administrative assistant. This team works closely together and is involved in everything related to the alderman’s portfolio—from social issues to finances and administrative matters.
