The Arnhem-Ede-Nijmegen-Achterhoek Regional Dispute Resolution Committee is a body that handles disputes between employees of municipalities, joint arrangements, and safety regions and their employers. We are looking for two enthusiastic and committed members to join this committee. Are you looking for a meaningful and varied volunteer role? If so, please read on.

What will you be doing?

The Dispute Committee is responsible for resolving individual disputes when the employer and the employee are unable to reach an agreement. The committee reviews disputes for admissibility, hears from the parties and others, conducts an investigation to establish the facts, and reports its findings to the employer and the employee. The report includes a binding recommendation to the employer. The Dispute Committee is supported by an administrative secretary.

The Dispute Resolution Committee has the authority to hear cases relating to the following three areas:

  • the individual application of a job evaluation system;
  • agreements made as part of a "From Work to Work" program;
  • the individual application of provisions in a social plan or social charter.

The number of hearing days depends on the number of applications received. At a minimum, four hearing days are scheduled each year.

Who are we?

The Dispute Resolution Committee consists of a chairperson and four members (as a member, you may serve as acting chairperson when necessary). The committee members will take turns attending meetings. At every meeting of the committee, two members are always present in addition to the chairperson. The regular location for meetings is Arnhem, but the Dispute Committee may determine a different venue depending on the disputes submitted.

Want to learn more about the dispute resolution committee? Visitthe Rules ofthe Regional Collective Bargaining Agreement Dispute Resolution Committee for the Ede-Arnhem-Nijmegen-Achterhoek Network Region | Local laws and regulations.

What do we offer you?

We offer members a stipend of €248 for each afternoon session they attend. Travel expenses are also reimbursed. Members are appointed for a term of three years, which may be extended for a maximum of one additional three-year term.

Please note: This is a volunteer position. Therefore, no salary, but you will receive a stipend per meeting for your efforts and time. Due to a technical issue in the system , the job posting incorrectly lists a salary — this not applicable.

Who are we looking for?

We strive to ensure a diversity of knowledge, backgrounds, and experience within the committee. We embrace differences and believe in diversity. We look for knowledge, skills, and motivation.

That is why we ask you to:

  • Up-to-date knowledge and experience in employment law at the university level.
  • Knowledge of the Municipalities Collective Bargaining Agreement and the Collective Bargaining Agreement for Cooperating Joint Organizations.
  • Experience in dispute resolution is a plus.
  • Experience with mediation is a plus.
  • Extensive experience with the HR21 job evaluation system.
  • An interest in legal protection, including mediation.
  • You have an eye for representing the interests of both parties and are solution-oriented.
  • I am a good listener, ask probing questions, and can get to the heart of the matter.

Finally, we require the ability to form an independent judgment. For this reason, among others, you may not be affiliated with or work under the supervision of any of the member employers (including any board or committee work).

Where will you be working?

With more than 171,000 residents, Arnhem is the 11th largest municipality in the country. The city’s diverse population is what makes it who it is. Arnhem is a municipality where urban dynamism, a natural living environment, and economic strength reinforce one another. We have a rich history and are the capital of the province of Gelderland. The municipal organization employs approximately 1,750 dedicated and enthusiastic staff members who work hard every day for the city, its residents, visitors, businesses, and institutions.

How do you apply?

You can apply for this position through the application button until Tuesday, June 30. Please submit your resume and a cover letter. The cover letter can be in any format—for example, a letter, an image, or a video. We’d love to hear what motivates you to apply for this position. Interviews will take place during the week of July 6.

We would also appreciate your answers to the following questions regarding your motivation:

  1. Experience in the field of labor law: in what (work) context do you have experience?
  1. An interest in legal protection and social issues: what do you bring to the table in this area?

Using the STARR method can help you answer the question. Could you use some help writing your cover letter? Check out our job application tips at: .
