The Stadsschouwburg and the PHIL are Haarlem’s two largest venues. Every year, we organize more than 400 events: from hip-hop to dance, theater, and cabaret at the Stadsschouwburg, and from pop and classical concerts to soul performances, television productions, corporate events, and conferences at the PHIL. Behind the scenes, a dedicated team of technicians works to make all these productions possible. Due to a colleague’s departure, we are looking for an experienced and collaborative Stage Manager for 36 hours per week.

Who are we?

We are a single organization with two prominent venues in the heart of Haarlem. The Theater Technology department ensures that all performances and events run smoothly. The team is led by the head of the department and consists of 5 stage managers, 8 technicians, and a production assistant. We are a diverse team and strive to create a work environment where everyone feels welcome and valued.

What will you be doing?

As a stage manager, you play a central role in the technical preparation and execution of performances, concerts, and events at both the PHIL and the Stadsschouwburg. You ensure that everything runs smoothly on and around the stage and lead the technical team during setup, the performance, and teardown. You serve as the primary point of contact for companies and artists and ensure a welcoming, safe, and professional working environment.

Your responsibilities will include:

Coordinating the daily work of technicians and conducting annual performance reviews;
Coordinate with production staff regarding technical facilities, staff scheduling, and operating procedures;
Performing technical tasks independently within your area of expertise;
Ensuring compliance with occupational health and safety, security, and fire safety regulations;
Act as the emergency response team leader in emergency situations;
Performing and coordinating maintenance on theater technical systems;
Manage consumables and ensure their proper use and inventory control;
Contributing ideas for improvements in technology, safety, and work processes.

What are we looking for?

We are looking for an experienced and independent stage manager with a passion for stage technology and a keen eye for detail. You are a natural leader on the job and know how to keep a clear overview, even under pressure. You have strong communication skills, are customer-focused, and think in terms of solutions.

We also ask:

A completed MBO+ program in event, stage, or theater technology;
Demonstrable knowledge of and experience with various disciplines within event, stage, and theater technology;
Leadership and coaching skills;
Knowledge of occupational health and safety regulations and a willingness to serve as an emergency response team leader;
Experience with planning systems such as Yesplan is a plus;
Willingness to work irregular hours, including evenings and weekends.
