Greenpeace Netherlands is looking for a Legal Campaigner (0.9 FTE).
As Legal Campaigner , you are key to the successful use of strategic litigation within Greenpeace’s international campaigns. You serve as the bridge between the legal world and our campaign strategies.

What will you be doing?
- Strategy and Risk Analysis: You will lead the preparations for a lawsuit in the Netherlands. You will be part of an international Greenpeace campaign and will collaborate with both the team in the Netherlands and the international team to develop the substance of the case. You will develop and ensure the effectiveness of legal strategies, working alongside legal advisors and campaigners both within and outside of Greenpeace.
- Campaigning: You are the link who identifies both legal and campaign opportunities, translates them into action, and brings them to fruition. You provide the substantive support for these efforts.
- Collaboration: You will manage relationships with various stakeholders, ranging from external experts to (international) colleagues. You will establish contacts with experts and maintain a network of legal professionals, attorneys, researchers, and campaigners in the Netherlands and internationally
- Research and Analysis: You will prepare, edit, and analyze legal documents for court cases, working closely with our attorneys. You will research and analyze Dutch and international legislation and case law, as well as the latest (climate) science and other substantive materials to support court cases. If external research is required, you will coordinate it.
Who are you?
You are driven to proactively contribute to the organization’s strategy and campaign goals. You also recognize yourself in the profile below:
- A legal expert: You have a legal background, preferably in the areas of human rights, environmental law, international law, and/or EU law.
- Strategic and campaign-oriented: You understand how the law can be used to bring about social change. You are able to identify legal opportunities and translate them into effective campaigns. Ideally, you have experience with strategic litigation within NGOs or the legal profession.
- Analytical and critical: You are able to quickly grasp complex legal documents and academic information and assess their relevance. You can translate these into compelling (legal) arguments. You think creatively and see opportunities in changing circumstances. You identify problems, analyze risks, and are always on the lookout for solutions.
- Communication: You have strong writing skills and can express yourself clearly in legal documents. You are able to bridge the gap between the legal world and the outside world, and can translate complex legal concepts into accessible language for colleagues, the media, and the public. You communicate clearly and persuasively in both Dutch and English.
- International mindset: You are highly motivated to work in an international setting. You collaborate effectively with colleagues from different countries, cultures, and time zones. You know how to bring people from diverse backgrounds on board and are able to build strong coalitions.
- You have at least 3 years of relevant work experience.
What do we offer you?
- Salary between €3,810 and €4,915 (based on full-time employment), depending on knowledge and experience.
- A one-year contract for 33.75 hours per week (90%), with the possibility of a permanent position.
