Greenpeace stands up to corporations and governments that harm the environment and do not do enough to protect our planet.

Greenpeace Netherlands is led by an executive board that bears overall responsibility for the entire organization, which employs approximately 100 people. Greenpeace Netherlands is supported by nearly 700,000 supporters, including 307,000 donors and 2,300 volunteers.

Supervisory Board

Internal oversight at Greenpeace Netherlands is the responsibility of the Supervisory Board (RvT). The Supervisory Board consists of five to seven members. The Supervisory Board is tasked with overseeing the policies and their implementation by the Executive Board, as well as the general affairs of Greenpeace Netherlands. The Supervisory Board also serves as a sounding board for the Executive Board, establishes the Executive Board’s terms of employment, and conducts an annual performance review of the Executive Board. One member of the Supervisory Board serves as a trustee on the council of Greenpeace International on behalf of Greenpeace Netherlands. Due to the expiration of the terms of two members, the Supervisory Board is seeking two new members.

We place great importance on ensuring broad representation of diverse social backgrounds, areas of expertise, and disciplines on the Board of Trustees. Members of the Board of Trustees must meet the following general profile:

  • has a green heart and shares Greenpeace’s mission;
  • is honest, responsible, and independent;
  • maintains the right balance between engagement and professional detachment, and exercises oversight without overstepping the management’s authority;
  • has an understanding of social and political dynamics;
  • is enterprising and has a positive attitude toward innovative developments;
  • has the ability to assist the management team by providing advice and serving as a sounding board;
  • is a team player who puts Greenpeace’s interests first; and
  • has a large and relevant network.

We are seeking two members for the Supervisory Board who meet the general profile requirements and also possess the following specific expertise:

  1. A member with a legal background who will be appointed in the fall of 2026 and who is capable of forming a general assessment of issues that arise involving legal aspects. This member possesses broad legal knowledge and is able to apply it in practice.
  2. A member with a focus on fundraising who will be appointed in the fall of 2026. This member has a broad professional network, possesses knowledge of and experience with major-gift giving, and is able to apply this expertise in practice. In addition, the member has the ability to form a general assessment of the fundraising and marketing strategy presented by the executive board.

More information

  • Members of the Supervisory Board are appointed for a term of four years. They may be reappointed up to two times, for a maximum term of four years each time, up to a total of ten years.
  • Members of the Supervisory Board are willing and able to attend and prepare for all meetings. They must be available for at least ten working days per year. These meetings are usually held in the evening.
  • Members of the Supervisory Board do not receive compensation for their work. Travel expenses are reimbursed based on the public transportation fare (second class).
  • Members of the Supervisory Board do not hold any executive or high-profile political office and have no current plans to run for such a position.

Procedure

The process consists of three rounds of interviews. The first two rounds are with members of the Supervisory Board and take place online. The third round is with the executive board and the works council. This takes place at the Greenpeace Netherlands office. A reference check may be part of the selection process.
