Do you have knowledge of and experience with labor law and social security law, and are you interested in furthering your expertise in education law? Would you like to advise our school organizations and colleagues on relevant laws and regulations in the education sector, and are you looking for a challenging and varied role? Then we’re looking for you!
The PO-Raad and the VO-raad are seeking a legal advisor with expertise and experience in labor law and a passion for education. As a legal advisor, you will closely monitor developments in labor law, education law, and relevant policy frameworks. In this way, you will ensure that the PO-Raad and the VO-raad can always provide their members with sound and up-to-date advice and representation. You will not only advise our members but also serve as a sounding board for colleagues within the PO-Raad and VO-raad. The Legal Affairs Department consists of four legal advisors and is a small, close-knit, and informal team that works closely together.
What will you be doing?
- You will answer legal questions from school organizations via email and phone. In doing so, you will provide first-line legal advice on a wide range of issues, particularly in the areas of labor law, the Collective Labor Agreements for Primary and Secondary Education (CAO PO and CAO VO), and education law.
- Together with fellow legal professionals and the communications department, you will be responsible for keeping the websites up to date so that members always have access to accurate and complete information. You will write and edit (legal) articles and Q&As, and make suggestions for improving our services.
- You advise internal policy advisors on new legislative proposals and relevant current events, and you alert colleagues to issues based on feedback from members.
Who are you?
- You have a degree in Dutch law from a university or a university of applied sciences.
- You have knowledge of labor law, social security law, and education law, or you are motivated to learn more about these areas. Knowledge of the GDPR is a plus.
- You are good at distinguishing between main and secondary issues and consider problems from multiple perspectives.
- You are inquisitive, curious, meticulous, proactive, and empathetic, and you have a customer-focused and team-oriented attitude.
- You are a good listener and know how to ask follow-up questions when necessary.
- You have excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- You are politically sensitive.
- Ideally, you have several years of experience providing legal advice in an educational setting.
What do we offer?
- You will be employed by the PO-Raad and will perform your duties for both councils. The PO-Raad and the VO-Raad work closely together;
- A challenging position for 24–32 hours per week. You will receive a one-year contract with the possibility of a permanent position.
- A salary between €4,728 and €7,297 for a 38-hour workweek, based on pay scale 11/12 of the Collective Labor Agreement for Dutch Universities, with the starting salary depending on relevant experience.
- You will receive an end-of-year bonus of 8.3%, 8% vacation pay, and a pension plan through the ABP.
- 232 vacation hours for full-time employees and the option to accrue additional compensatory leave.
- You can work from home or at the office, and we provide an internet and telecommuting allowance. We’ll also provide an office chair and monitor for your home office;
- If your commute to our office near Utrecht Overvecht station is more than 10 kilometers, you will receive a travel allowance or an NS Business Card.
Where will you be working?
The PO-Raad and the VO-Raad (located right next to Utrecht Overvecht Station) are the sector associations for primary and secondary education. We represent the interests of school organizations in primary education, special primary education, special (secondary) education, and secondary education.
Every day, we are committed to providing the best possible education for students. We do this by collaborating with our members, the government, the business community, local governments, and civil society organizations. In addition, we consult with employee organizations regarding terms of employment, thereby advocating for all employees within the sector. The PO-Raad and the VO-Raad embrace variety and diversity, both within the sectors and among our own staff.
