Do you enjoy being outdoors and want to work with us to ensure that ditches and levees are properly maintained? Then we’re looking for you! Together, we’ll make sure our community is safe and ready for the future.
What will you be doing?
Every morning, you meet your colleagues at a pumping station where you go over the day’s schedule together. Then you head out to your assigned area. You operate equipment that helps maintain the water at the correct level, such as pumps and weirs. You regularly check to ensure that ditches, canals, dikes, and levees are in good condition. When conditions are very wet or, conversely, very dry, you remain calm and work closely with your colleagues to prevent problems. You also use digital tools, such as apps, to document what you’ve observed.
You’ll sometimes receive reports from people who live in the area—for example, about flooding, damage, or complaints. You’ll listen, figure out what’s going on, and make sure the issue is resolved. This way, you’ll help people and ensure the area remains safe.
Here's how to do it:
- Monitor water levels and operate equipment that can raise or lower the water level, such as pumps and gates.
- Perform minor maintenance tasks on this equipment and resolve any minor malfunctions.
- To verify that companies are doing their jobs properly when they perform maintenance work for the water board.
- Check regularly to make sure that dikes and quays are sturdy and safe.
- Addressing reports from residents, such as complaints about flooding or damage, and handling them properly.
- Courses you can take to keep your knowledge up to date.
- In consultation, you will be on call ten to thirteen times a year, during which you will be available outside of regular working hours (including at night and on weekends) to handle emergencies, such as malfunctions or complaints.
What do we offer?
- You will receive a salary in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement for water authorities, scale 7. The amount ranges from €3,146 to €4,023 gross per month, depending on your experience.
- You will receive an additional budget equal to 21% of your salary. This is called the Individual Choice Budget (ICB). You can decide for yourself how to use it: for example, to buy extra days off or to increase your monthly salary.
- You’ll work 36 hours a week, which is considered full-time at our company.
- You will initially be offered a one-year contract. After that, it can be extended, for example, to a permanent contract.
- You will be provided with a Delfland company car for your commute and for travel within your assigned area. (This car is strictly for those purposes only; you may not use it for personal trips.)
- On-call pay
- Of course, you’ll work during the agreed-upon hours, but we can be flexible about that if, for example, you need to drop your kids off at school first. As long as we discuss it beforehand and you get all your work done
- You’ll receive a personal budget of €6,000 to continue your professional development, for example through a course, training program, or coaching. You can also use this budget for something that will help you in a future job, and you won’t have to pay it back if you leave the company.
- If you take parental leave during the first year after the birth, you are entitled to 13 weeks of fully paid leave.
- You can receive informal care support from Fello if you are providing unpaid care to a family member, friend, or neighbor who needs help due to illness, old age, or a disability. We believe it is important to support working informal caregivers.
What makes you successful?
- You work well with colleagues, residents, and other stakeholders, and have a clear understanding of what needs to be done.
- You stay calm when things get busy or when problems arise, and work together to find a solution.
- You can explain clearly what you mean so that others understand you well
- You enjoy working outdoors and aren't afraid to get your hands dirty.
- You're interested in computers and digital tools, and you enjoy using them to make your work easier and more efficient.
- You have completed a vocational program, for example in engineering or landscape management, or you have the academic and cognitive level of a vocational program
- You have a Class B driver's license. A Class E driver's license is a plus, but you can get that later as well.
- You’re a strong swimmer (we’ll provide you with training on working in and around the water so that you stay safe if you end up in the water while on the job)
- You live in or near theservice area, so you can reach your workplace within 30 minutes. The entire Delfland area is divided into four zones: Westland, Haagland, Oostland, and Midden Delfland.
- It’s a plus if you already have experience working in water management or landscaping, but we’re also open to candidates who are willing to learn.
Where will you be working?
