Our museum
The Amsterdam Museum (AM) is Amsterdam’s premier city museum, telling the story of the city—past, present, and future. We foster insight, wonder, and connection among visitors and residents. For the coming years, the AM has an ambitious agenda featuring major projects such as multiple exhibitions at our temporary home in the H’Art Museum (formerly the Hermitage), at Huis Willet-Holthuysen, and innovative museum projects at various locations throughout the city. For our main location, the former Burgerweeshuis complex on Kalverstraat, the AM is preparing for a large-scale and extensive renovation. In addition, the AM manages the museum canal house on Herengracht, Huis Willet-Holthuysen, and in Amsterdam-Noord, the Collection Center (depot) and an office and storage building on Disketteweg.
The Projects Office is responsible for developing and implementing a wide variety of projects. The exhibitions and activities undertaken as part of these projects take place not only at the Amsterdam Museum on the Amstel and Huis Willet-Holthuysen, but also at an increasing number of locations throughout the city.
As a project manager, you will lead both a team of staff members and external experts on behalf of the head of the project office and in close consultation with the artistic director. We collaborate on this with various partners, external agencies, individual creators, and city residents. Your role is to lead the project, including overseeing the development and implementation of an accompanying online platform.
The project “Women of Amsterdam: An Ode” presents the past from various perspectives, with an emphasis on silenced and underrepresented stories, particularly those of women. We aim to provide a more complete picture of Amsterdam’s history, but also to raise awareness that one’s own perspective matters. The project will offer surprising insights into the role of women in Amsterdam’s history and, in doing so, change the way people view the city.
_ In this project, the term “woman” is interpreted in the broadest sense: anyone who identifies as a woman, identifies with a gender-diverse identity, or has played a role in women’s emancipation can be included in this tribute.
