Defence for Children Netherlands is looking for a hands-on, creative fundraiser who wants to help ensure a safe childhood for all children.

Use your strategic insights, creative ideas, and excellent communication skills to inspire individual donors and engage them in our mission. Are you up for the challenge? Then we’re looking for you!

You know how to inspire individual donors and engage them in the mission of Defence for Children Netherlands: a safe childhood for every child.

About the role

You will be the first person to join Defence for Children Netherlands as a fundraiser. This means you are innovative and capable of developing and implementing fundraising strategies, as well as trying out new ideas. A Private Fundraising Coordinator and the Department Manager have laid the groundwork for this position, and now it’s up to you to further shape it. You will focus on recruiting and retaining donors primarily through online channels, while overseeing the entire process of donor recruitment, management, and communication.

You’ll be part of the Communications and Public Affairs team. It’s a small team of five people who work well together, with team members helping and supporting one another as needed. This team is part of the Communications, Public Affairs & Children’s Rights Helpdesk department. You’ll work closely with a wide range of disciplines across the organization—including children’s rights experts, communications specialists, finance, and our secretariat—to gather the information and insights you need to move forward.

Responsibilities:

  • Recruitingnew donors through various campaigns and platforms;
  • Maintaining and engagingthe current donor base; fostering engagement and encouraging larger donations;
  • Developing and implementingfundraising strategies and marketing campaigns;
  • Monitoring and analysis:analyzing results and optimizing campaigns based on those results;
  • Handlingadministrative tasks related to donors and campaigns;
  • Collaboratewith other team members and contribute to the team’s growth;
  • Storytelling:writing compelling stories that highlight the human side of our projects and showcase the impact of our work on individuals and communities. You’ll do this in collaboration with our content marketer.

Who are you?

  • Demonstrable experience in (online) fundraising, sales, or marketing;
  • Experience with online fundraising is a plus, or you have the ambition and interest to quickly learn the ropes;
  • You like to keep things organized: you’re good at planning and maintaining systems;
  • You can collect and analyze data and make suggestions for improvement;
  • Driven and results-oriented, with a hands-on approach;
  • Creative and willing to try new things;
  • You have a proactive attitude, take the initiative, and are team-oriented;
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, in Dutch and English;
  • You work independently and are able to plan and carry out your work efficiently and with a focus on results.

What do we offer you?

  • A pioneering role with plenty of variety, because no two days are the same at Defence for Children Netherlands;
  • Let your creativity run wild, with plenty of room to grow;
  • An attractive pension plan;
  • A great workplace in the heart of Leiden;
  • A gross monthly salary between €3,489 and €5,702 for a 36-hour workweek, based on experience, plus a flexible spending account and, of course, travel and remote work allowances;
  • Competitive benefits (Social Work Collective Bargaining Agreement) and enrollment in the Healthcare and Welfare Pension Fund.

About Defence for Children Netherlands

Standing up for the rights of children who are in trouble or at risk of falling into trouble—whether they are stuck in the youth care system, fleeing their homes, or victims of violence or exploitation. Ensuring that all children have access to their rights, can grow up safely, and can develop to their full potential. That is the mission of Defence for Children Netherlands.

Through our Children’s Rights Help Desk, we provide legal support to children whose rights are at risk of being violated. We are unique in the Netherlands in this regard. We conduct research and provide information to professionals, parents, and children. We also work to improve legislation and policy. We focus our efforts on issues related to family, migration, and (sexual) exploitation.

We carry out our work in the Netherlands, but also in various countries around the world through the networks of Defence for Children International and ECPAT International. We have about 30 staff members and five interns based in Leiden.

Diversity and Inclusion

We welcome all forms of diversity and are committed to being inclusive. We believe it is important for our work to reflect different cultures, approaches, and ways of thinking, and we therefore encourage everyone to apply.
