The Stadsschouwburg and the PHIL are Haarlem’s two largest venues. We organize more than 400 events a year: from hip-hop to dance, theater, and cabaret at the Stadsschouwburg. And from pop and classical concerts to soul performances, television productions, corporate events, and conferences at the PHIL. Our team works with passion to make all of this happen. Due to the departure of one of our colleagues, we are urgently seeking a Duty Manager for 16–20 hours per week.
Organization & Department
We are a single organization with two prominent venues in the heart of Haarlem. Our team, consisting of 55 full-time staff members, approximately 50 hospitality staff, and a dedicated group of volunteers, works together to ensure that all performances and events run smoothly.
In addition to the Head, the Hospitality & Events Department consists of 11 staff members, approximately 50 hospitality staff, and a number of volunteers.
What will you be doing?
As Duty Manager, you ensure that everything runs smoothly during a performance or event. Here are some of your responsibilities:
- On the day of the event, you will coordinate activities with external parties (event organizers, caterers, etc.);
- You will organize the work and supervise the food and beverage staff, doormen, volunteers, and cashiers to ensure the highest level of guest service;
- You are responsible for handling, managing, and overseeing the administrative wrap-up of a performance or event.
What are we looking for?
- You motivate the team with your enthusiasm while also exuding a sense of calm;
- You make sure everyone feels welcome;
- You don't let an incident slip by; you don't just sit back and wait, but take action yourself;
- You speak and write Dutch; any other language is a plus;
- You are flexible and able to handle stress;
- Our performances and events often take place in the evenings and on weekends. This means that workdays and working hours vary;
- You have a college-level education and at least 2 years of relevant work experience;
- You hold the certifications required for the position (including Occupational Health and Safety and First Aid), or you are willing to obtain them.
We offer:
- Varied work at two locations in downtown Haarlem;
- An enthusiastic team of welcoming and passionate colleagues;
- A one-year contract, with the possibility of a permanent position;
- Salary in accordance with pay scale 6 of the Dutch Performing Arts Collective Bargaining Agreement;
- You will work on a rotating schedule and receive an irregular hours allowance in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement;
- There are plenty of free concerts and performances to attend, including those hosted by our partners at Patronaat and Schuur, as well as a monthly get-together.
