Strengthen the global position of our business community and make the Netherlands more attractive to foreign companies looking to invest here. Help achieve transition goals in the areas of climate, digitalization, and innovation?
At the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy (EZK), within the Top Sectors and Industrial Policy Department, we are looking for a driven and experienced professional to join our Strategy team. Someone who can translate analysis into action. As a strategic policy officer, you will play a crucial role in developing, implementing, and evaluating policies that stimulate and strengthen industry in the Netherlands and Europe. You will work in a dynamic environment where you will make a direct contribution to the country’s economic well-being.
As a policy officer, you’ll have a highly dynamic role, and your responsibilities will be shaped in part by current events. That’s precisely what makes your work so fascinating. But above all, you are a visible player for businesses, government agencies, and civil society representatives, with whom you will work together to pursue policy goals. For example, you ensure that the business community receives sufficient support through the policies of the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy (EZK) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, among others. This primarily involves promoting international trade, innovation, and investment.
- You will be responsible for coordinating various tasks within the policy team, ensuring the smooth implementation of projects and initiatives. This explicitly includes maintaining close coordination with all stakeholders.
- You will play a coordinating and advisory role in the field of industrial policy. Not only within our Top Sectors and Industrial Policy (TOP) Directorate, but also for the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy (EZK), among the various ministries involved, and in relation to policymakers, the business community, and international organizations. In doing so, you will translate insights gained from the global landscape into effective government policy. And you will comprehensively ensure that the formulated policy in your field is actually implemented.
Your role:
- You will oversee the management of the Netherlands Foreign Investment Agency (NFIA), an organization dedicated to attracting foreign companies to the Netherlands.
- You will be responsible for organizing stakeholder management at EZK. You have a clear vision of how EZK can further improve its dialogue with stakeholders.
- You will work closely with internal and external stakeholders, including embassies abroad, the European Commission, other departments and directorates, companies, industry associations, and research institutions, to build support and gather input.
- You will represent the ministry in (international) contexts and negotiate policy matters related to the industry.
All in all, this is a responsible and varied role in which you will make a significant contribution to our business community and to the Dutch economy as a whole.
Job Requirements
- You easily build relationships with colleagues and stakeholders both within and outside the executive team, and you act with determination and a focus on results.
- You have experience as a project manager and know how to achieve results in a complex stakeholder environment. You can lead, coordinate, and execute complex projects.
- You are self-critical, but as a strategist, you are also not afraid to take a proactive approach to improve policy or the organization. You work in a project-based manner and keep the interests of the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy in mind in everything you do. You also enjoy taking the initiative and accepting responsibility.
- You are skilled at analyzing situations and policies and know how to make your case with sound policy and economic reasoning. In addition, you enjoy working in a dynamic public-private, political-administrative, and international environment.
- You have extensive experience in a similar (strategic) role within the federal government or in a position where you have gained a thorough understanding of the federal government through an advisory or strategic role.
- You know your way around government agencies like no one else, or you have a plan for how you’ll quickly get up to speed.
What else we ask for:
- University-level work and thinking.
- Proven experience in developing and implementing strategic policies.
- Strong analytical skills, creative thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
- Experience with stakeholder management.
- Experience with coordinating tasks and leading projects (project and program management)
- Proven leadership skills and experience.
- Results-oriented: turning analysis into action. Quickly switching between different projects.
- Set clear priorities.
- You have strong verbal and written communication skills and can provide clear advice.
- Understanding of administrative, political, and business processes.
- You have knowledge of or an interest in industrial policy and the associated global transition challenges.
