You are an independent and proactive communications professional who feels at home in a municipal organization. Through internal communications, you help strengthen relationships with colleagues, Amsterdam residents, and stakeholder groups. The corporate communications team consists of five colleagues. You will help implement the city’s communications policy. This helps all city employees do their best for the city and its residents. Internal communication is essential to achieving this.
The position
In this role, you’ll collaborate with senior colleagues on internal, municipality-wide communications. You’ll also work with specialists from other teams, such as online editors, photographers, and social media experts. Your target audiences are diverse, ranging from field staff to managers, from enforcement officers to neighborhood liaisons—all colleagues within the municipality. You’ll also create content for all municipal employees. If we do our job well, it will have a positive impact on how they communicate with Amsterdammers. And that’s our goal: to help public servants do their best for the city and for the people of Amsterdam.
The topics you’ll be working on include inclusive communication, applying our communication principles of “clear, accessible, and reliable,” the corporate identity, and initiatives to strengthen trust in the municipal organization. You will spend about half of your time working on internal communications for the municipal secretary. This may involve arranging interviews or photos, writing articles on current topics, or organizing networking events. You will collaborate on these tasks with the internal corporate communications advisor.
Here's what you do on an average day
- You create engaging content on your topics. You write and edit the content yourself and handle the photography and video.
- You will develop and discuss implementation plans related to corporate communication topics.
- You will be responsible for editing municipality-wide newsletters: the Weekly Email for Directors, Management News (both published weekly), and Employee News (published every two weeks).
- You will assist with scheduling meetings for the Internal Communications Network and the Municipal Management Team’s lunch meetings.
- You will develop and manage the Corporate Communications department’s internal social media pages.
- You analyze communication efforts based on data and evaluations.
- You will work alongside the senior consultants and participate in team meetings.
- You will work closely with colleagues from the news and online editorial teams, as well as with colleagues in internal communications at the various departments and city districts.
