As a case manager, you are responsible for supporting victims of serious violent and sex crimes, as well as the surviving relatives of murder or manslaughter victims. After a traumatic experience, people often have financial, legal, or practical questions in addition to physical or psychological symptoms. Case managers typically provide intensive, long-term support to victims and surviving relatives as they deal with the consequences of the crime. In your role, you help people by referring them to the appropriate support services or agencies that can assist them further. You act as a sounding board and central coordinator, and will deal with unexpected situations, questions, and developments that may arise in a case. To provide clients with effective support, you will visit many different locations as a case manager. This may include clients’ homes, the police station, and the courthouse. Your work therefore requires a considerable degree of stress resilience and flexibility.
