The joint emergency dispatch center receives all 112 calls and serves as the point of contact for the police, ambulance, and fire departments during incidents. In the event of complex and/or large-scale incidents, it is important that one person maintains an overview of the situation at the dispatch center, has the correct information, and ensures that the emergency services work together effectively. That person is the Emergency Coordinator (CaCo) at the dispatch center!
As a CaCo, you are the central hub for information, both when things are relatively calm in the dispatch center and when a crisis strikes. You coordinate with dispatchers, dispatch center supervisors, crisis managers from the safety region, and experts from crisis response partners. As an information broker, you maintain an up-to-date overview of the security situation and share it with stakeholders. If you detect a disruption in the safety region, you are the one who takes action. In addition, together with the National Emergency Dispatch Center Cooperation, you ensure operational continuity in the event of disruptions at the emergency dispatch center.
As a CaCo, you are the primary point of contact for internal and external colleagues and partners in the emergency operations center. You inform and mobilize the appropriate officials and partners so that everyone has the right multidisciplinary information during incidents of all sizes. If the situation escalates into a full-blown crisis, you are the one who takes initial charge of the multidisciplinary crisis response process, ensuring that the safety region’s crisis organization gets off to a flying start.
You are, or will become, a safety professional who takes responsibility for safety in the Amsterdam-Amstelland region. You work well with others in a dynamic environment, build relationships easily, and adapt quickly, especially in crisis situations. You take the lead when the situation calls for it, but you’re also able to support those around you when needed. You are the link between various disciplines and partners. You must be flexible, proactive, and able to handle stress, and enjoy managing a crisis. You understand that you are an important representative of the safety region, control room, and crisis organization, and know how to build rapport with people. You feel responsible for ensuring, together with your fellow CaCos, that the role is always fulfilled professionally. And, because the work involves round-the-clock shifts, you are also willing to be there early in the morning, in the evening, and at night to ensure safety and support your colleagues.
Do you already have experience working in an emergency dispatch center or an interest in information-driven safety? That’s a plus, but the most important thing is that you see yourself in the description above and are eager to be the go-to person for the dispatch center and crisis management!
At the Amsterdam-Amstelland Safety Region, you can work with a great team where you’ll have opportunities to grow in your role.
You will be working in an effective and self-managing team of nine Emergency Coordinators, part of the Amsterdam-Amstelland Safety Region. Together, you’ll be responsible for fulfilling the role of the CaCo around the clock, 24/7. That means you’ll be on call even at night if a crisis breaks out, and you’ll feel responsible for stepping up if a colleague is sick.
At the same time, you’ll work closely with colleagues in the emergency dispatch centers for the ambulance service, police, and fire department, as well as with crisis managers and advisors from the safety region. With a network of colleagues like that, you’ll never have a dull moment! You’ll be based at the emergency dispatch center in Amsterdam, located in a police building.
