
The Amsterdam-Amstelland Safety Region (VRAA) works around the clock to ensure the safety of more than 1.4 million residents. We do this through firefighting services, crisis management, emergency medical services, and a professional organization that supports these tasks. Within the Human Resources department, we ensure that employees can count on clear terms of employment, up-to-date information, and well-founded policies.
As a Policy Advisor for Employment Conditions, you will work on complex issues related to employment conditions and legal status within our organization. Drawing on your background in labor law, you will translate laws, regulations, and existing policies into clear and actionable guidelines.
You will address issues arising from regulations such as CAR-UWO, NRGA-VrAA, and ARBAA, and translate them into policies that align with our organization. You will draft clear advisory memos for the management team and briefing notes for the works council. You will regularly present your recommendations to the management team and answer questions about policy proposals.
Within our organization, there are various issues related to employment conditions, such as the policy on self-employed contractors, on-call duty policy, rank policy, integrity, FLO, the PTSD policy, secondary employment, and compensation. In addition, new issues may arise that require the development of new policies.
In this role, your responsibilities will include:
You are comfortable navigating an administrative organization and have a good understanding of administrative dynamics and organizational sensitivities. You will report to a coordinator or team leader and work closely with policy advisors, HR advisors, and colleagues in the Management & Communications department.
You are detail-oriented, have strong communication skills, and enjoy bringing structure to tasks. You write in clear and understandable language. You interact easily with various colleagues and know how to handle confidential information with care.

As a policy advisor, you will be working within the HR department, which consists of nearly 50 colleagues. You will primarily be collaborating with our HR advisors and policy advisors, a group of about 10 colleagues.
