Would you like to play a role in promoting digital inclusion for people facing a digital divide throughout North and South Holland? Help young people who are struggling in school due to a lack of digital resources and guidance? Supporting older adults who struggle with a digital society that sometimes moves just a little too fast? Probiblio is seeking help to improve and establish services related to Digital Inclusion and Digital Citizenship. Are you our advisor who can bridge the gap between education and basic digital skills?
What does Probiblio do?
Libraries play a vital role in our society as places where everyone can always turn to for culture, knowledge, and learning. Probiblio is committed to ensuring that libraries are stronger tomorrow than they are today. That is why libraries can turn to us for support in the area of literacy. Whether it concerns digitization, marketing, staff and volunteers, the collection, or programs for media literacy and education, Probiblio provides practical, tactical, and strategic advice. Currently, Probiblio collaborates with 39 organizations, spread across 378 locations in 98 municipalities throughout North and South Holland.
The library sector is undergoing significant changes, and we are keeping pace. Starting in 2021, the sector will operate according to the Network Agenda, which is designed to foster collaboration and connection and to work toward a shared focus. Probiblio has outlined this in five key objectives.
The Education Team consists of 16 advisors and supports libraries in the areas of basic skills, providing services to schools and childcare centers, and promoting literacy among children and adults. In recent years, the Education Team has worked on the “Digital Inclusion” program, which has been successfully implemented in North and South Holland. For example, “Digital Government” information points were opened, and the range of offerings in the area of basic digital skills was expanded. In addition, the education team is helping to translate the national “Digital Citizenship” program into daily practice. Probiblio aims to grow into an entrepreneurial and innovative knowledge and network partner, and we could really use your contribution to achieve this.
Your role
The Digital Inclusion program has now entered its next phase: consolidation and further development, as well as training on topics such as the privacy aspects of these services.
As an education consultant, you’ll work with libraries to develop their offerings in the area of basic digital skills and help them make the connection to digital literacy. Within the “Digital Citizenship” program, you’ll play a key role in supporting the pilot projects, and together with your colleagues, you’ll help libraries develop a vision for this new program.
You provide libraries with tools to translate national trends into concrete services. You don’t shy away from tailoring your approach, because every local situation is different.
What do we expect from you?
You will contribute to the success and future of public library services. Specifically, you will focus on the role the library plays in ensuring that everyone can keep up with—and continue to participate in—our digital information society. You’re a skilled networker; you can connect people, inspire enthusiasm, and get others on board with your vision. You enjoy breaking new ground, collaborate well, and draw energy from it, but you’re also capable of working independently. You’re willing to go the extra mile to achieve the best results.
You have:
- HBO-level work and thinking
- At least 2 years of experience as a consultant
- knowledge of recent developments in the field of digital literacy
- preferably knowledge of informal learning/adult education
- preferably knowledge of the educational landscape
- Experience in conducting training sessions and presentations for a variety of audiences.
