Reading, Libraries, and Collections

You’ll be joining theCollection Advisory & Programming team. Together with fellow specialists and collection and program advisors, you’ll work closely with libraries. We contribute to innovative program initiatives, themes such as citizenship and diversity of voices, as well as technological developments like the impact of AI on collection development. It’s a varied and dynamic role!

As a team, we also ensure that collection budgets are used wisely and effectively. We assist libraries with their collection policies and translate these into concrete collection profiles and annual plans. In addition, we curate comprehensive collections as well as specialized collections for schools, for example.

What will you be doing?

As a Junior Collections Specialist, you’ll start with a 6-month intensive training program, during which you’ll learn all aspects of the job on the job. After that, you’ll begin working more independently, and after a year, you’ll be a fully-fledged collections specialist. You’ll:

  • selects and acquires collections for several libraries on a weekly basis;
  • teaches courses and shares your knowledge with library staff;
  • works with colleagues to compile thematic lists of titles;
  • You will be based in Hoofddorp and will regularly visit libraries in North and South Holland.

We

  • We’re a team of 14 colleagues who are just as motivated as you are.
  • We are offering a one-year contract for 32 hours per week with a gross salary between €2,841 and €3,722 (based on full-time employment (36 hours), pay scale 7, Public Libraries Collective Bargaining Agreement). After one year, there is the possibility of advancing to the position of Collection Advisor in pay scale 8. Plus 8% vacation pay and a 5% year-end bonus.
  • Reimburse your library membership fee.
