The City of Arnhem strives to be a diverse and inclusive organization. This means we want to be a place where our current and future employees feel seen, heard, and at home. We recognize the value of diversity, and everyone is welcome here. Do you want to make a real difference within our organization as a Diversity and Inclusion Advisor? Then we’re looking for you!

What will you be doing?

As a diversity and inclusion advisor, you will help make the City of Arnhem more diverse and inclusive. Together, we want to create a work environment characterized by respect and understanding of each other’s backgrounds, where everyone is welcome and able to participate.

Specifically, you will be working on:

  • Developing and implementing initiatives that raise awareness of the power of diversity, from the front lines to management;
  • Serving as a resource and advisor on diversity and inclusion for the executive board, board of directors, and clusters of the City of Arnhem;
  • Translating needs in the areas of diversity, inclusion, and equity into policies, processes, and implementation;
  • Networking both internally and externally, with the aim of expanding our expertise, ideas, perspectives, and ability to take decisive action in the area of diversity and inclusion.

As a Diversity and Inclusion Advisor, you will contribute to the city’s“Inclusive Arnhem” program. Through this program, the City of Arnhem is working toward an inclusive city and organization based on five themes. In your role, you will focus on the theme of a diverse and inclusive municipal organization. This involves addressing questions such as: How can we ensure that the City of Arnhem is an organization with which our residents can identify? Where (new) employees can be themselves and feel seen, heard, and valued, and where we exclude no one? Your work has a significant impact on the work culture of the City of Arnhem, and you’ll also have the opportunity to contribute ideas for improvements within the organization.

Would you like to learn more about how we are working toward an inclusive and diverse municipal organization? Click on: “Implementation Plan for an Inclusive and Diverse Municipal Organization, which outlines how we plan to achieve our goals within three years.

Who are we?

In the HR department, we focus on “the right person in the right place” across the entire organization. After all, employees make the difference. With approximately 35 employees, we provide high-quality advice and support to both management and employees. In this role within HR, you will be part of the BPA (Policy, Process, and Terms of Employment) team. Together with the strategic HR business partners, this team forms the pillars of HR policy and advises on complex HR issues.

You will also work closely with the diversity & inclusion officer and the inclusion team. Organizationally, they are not part of the HR department. The inclusion team consists of five employees, each with their own specific responsibilities. You will ensure strong communication with your colleagues in the HR department. Your focus will be on fostering a diverse and inclusive municipal organization.

What do we offer you?

With the City of Arnhem, you can count on:

  • A competitive gross monthly salary in pay grade 11, ranging from a minimum of €4,020 to a maximum of €5,725, based on a 36-hour workweek;
  • A 12-month employment contract with the intention of a permanent position;
  • 144 statutory vacation hours and 50.4 additional vacation hours per calendar year, based on a 36-hour workweek;
  • A 17.05% discretionary budget of up to €976 per month, based on a 36-hour workweek, is available to you. You can choose to have this budget paid out or use it for various purposes;
  • A solid pension that you build up with ABP;
  • An individual career budget of €500 per year;
  • Opportunities for personal development and career advancement thanks to our range of training programs;
  • A laptop and a phone;
  • Hybrid work: You have the freedom to alternate between working from home and working in the office. We also believe a healthy work-life balance is important; you can discuss and agree on your workspace and working hours.

We have listed our entirebenefits packagefor you.

Who are we looking for?

You are an expert in the field of diversity, inclusion, and equality. This means you have expertise in this area and stay up to date on the latest developments in every way possible. To truly make an impact and ensure this issue remains a top priority within the City of Arnhem, you know what actions and activities need to be taken to raise awareness, and from there, continue to contribute to a diverse and inclusive organization.

You are proactive, which means you take the initiative to act independently and ensure that these actions are carried out. Specifically, you ensure that existing plans and reports are implemented. You don’t wait for instructions; instead, you gather information, take appropriate action, and take the lead in moving plans forward.

A results-oriented approach is essential in this role. This means that you regularly keep stakeholders informed of progress and inspire and assist them in taking the next steps. When faced with resistance, you seek to build rapport so that you can continue working together toward the goal. You are mindful of others’ attitudes, circumstances, and feelings, as well as the impact your own behavior has on them. Finally, you are open-minded and interested in different ideas.

We also ask:

  • HBO-level academic and intellectual ability;
  • Relevant work experience in an administrative setting in the field of diversity, inclusion, and equality.

Where will you be working?

With more than 165,000 residents, Arnhem is the 12th largest municipality in the country. The city’s diversity is what makes it who it is. Arnhem is a municipality where urban dynamism, a natural living environment, and economic strength reinforce one another. We have a rich history and are the capital of the province of Gelderland. The municipal organization employs approximately 1,200 dedicated and enthusiastic staff members who work hard every day for the city, its residents, visitors, businesses, and institutions.

How do you apply?

You can apply for this position through the application button until September 18, 2023. Please submit your resume and a cover letter. The cover letter can be in any format—for example, a letter, an image, or a video. We’d love to hear what motivates you to apply for this position. We’d also appreciate your response to the cover letter question described below. By September 25, 2023, at the latest, you will hear about the next steps, such as an invitation to an interview. Interviews will take place on Monday and/or Tuesday, October 3, 2023, between 9:00 AM and 1:00 PM. Please keep this in mind when planning your schedule.

Proactive: What initiatives have you implemented over the past year in the area of diversity and inclusion? What were your considerations in doing so? What was the outcome? What would you do differently next time?
