What will you be doing?

As a diversity and inclusion advisor, you will help make the City of Arnhem a more diverse and inclusive organization. Together, we want to create a work environment characterized by respect and mutual understanding, where everyone is welcome and able to participate.

Specifically, in your role, you will:

  • A driving force behind initiatives that raise awareness of the power of diversity, from the front lines to management;
  • A point of contact and advisor on diversity and inclusion for the clusters, departments, and colleagues at the City of Arnhem;
  • Translator of needs into policy, processes, and implementation;
  • An internal and external networker, with the goal of expanding our expertise, ideas, perspectives, and ability to take decisive action in the area of diversity and inclusion;

As a diversity and inclusion advisor , you will contribute to the city’s “Inclusive Arnhem” program . Through this program, the City of Arnhem is working on five themes to build an inclusive city andorganization. In your role, you will focus on the theme of a diverse and inclusive municipal organization.This involves addressing questions such as: How can we ensure that we are an organization with which residents can identify? Where (new) employees can be themselves and feel even more seen, heard, and valued, and where we exclude no one? Your work has a significant impact on the work culture of the City of Arnhem, and you’ll also have the opportunity to contribute ideas for improvements within the organization.

Would you like to learn more about how we are working toward an inclusive and diverse municipal organization? Click on: “Implementation Plan for an Inclusive and Diverse Municipal Organization, which outlines how we plan to achieve our goals within three years.

Who are we?

In the HR department, we focus on “the right person in the right place” across the entire organization. After all, it’s our employees who make the difference. With a staff of about 35, we provide high-quality advice and support to both management and employees.

In this role, you will be part of the BPA (Policy, Process, and Employment Conditions) team. Together with the strategic HR business partners, this team forms the foundation of HR policy and provides advice on complex HR issues. You will work closely with the Diversity & Inclusion Officer and the Inclusion Team, which consists of five employees. The focus is on building a diverse and inclusive municipal organization. In addition, you will ensure strong collaboration with colleagues in the HR and Inclusion department. For you, co-creation is the key to achieving results.

What do we offer you?

A role in which you can have an impact on the municipal organization and make a difference for our residents. In addition, as a diversity and inclusion advisor for the City of Arnhem, you can count on:

  • A competitive gross monthly salary in pay grade 11, ranging from €3,701 to a maximum of €5,372, based on a 36-hour workweek;
  • A 12-month employment contract with the intention of establishing a long-term working relationship;
  • 144 statutory vacation hours for each calendar year of full-time employment;
  • 17.05% flexible spending allowance (up to €915) in addition to your salary;
  • An individual career budget of €500 per year;
  • Opportunities for personal development and career advancement through our comprehensive training programs;
  • In Arnhem, we have a hybrid work arrangement: you have the freedom to alternate between working from home and working in the office.

We have listed our entirebenefits package for you.

Who are we looking for?

You are aware of others’ attitudes, circumstances, and feelings, as well as the impact your own behavior has on them. You actively show interest in other people and take the initiative to make new connections and organize activities. To truly make an impact and keep this issue high on the agenda, a results-oriented attitude is essential. This means that you regularly keep those involved informed of progress and know how to inspire and help them take further steps. Even in the face of resistance or obstacles, you continue to strive to achieve the common goal, and you know how to do this in a way that fosters connection. We therefore expect you to actively seek collaboration, show interest in different ideas, and coordinate work with others.

You should also bring:

  • A level of work and thinking equivalent to a bachelor's or master's degree;
  • Relevant work experience, for example as a consultant or project manager, in the field of diversity and inclusion;
  • Experience in an administrative setting, which means you are skilled at managing diverse interests and needs and know how to address them.

Where will you be working?

With over 165,000 residents, Arnhem is the12th-largest municipality in the country. Its diverse population is what makes the city what it is. There are many innovative companies in the fields of energy, fashion, design, and culture. Arnhem is a Dutch Hanseatic city and the capital of the province of Gelderland. It is home to a number of national and international attractions and has a rich history that remains relevant to this day. Arnhem is a municipality where urban dynamism, a natural living environment, and economic strength reinforce one another.

How do you apply?

You can apply for this position through the application button until February 22. Please submit your resume and cover letter. The cover letter can be in any format—for example, a letter, image, or video. In your cover letter, we’d like you to answer the questions listed below. You’ll hear back by March 2 at the latest regarding the next steps, such as an invitation to an interview. The first interviews will take place on Tuesday, March 7, between 1:00 PM and 5:00 PM. Please keep this in mind when planning your schedule.

The motivation questions:

1) Empathy: How do you handle a situation where someone reacts to a problem very differently than you would? Can you give an example of this? How did you give that person space and foster mutual understanding and a collaboration that felt right for both of you? What steps did you take? What was the end result? Would you handle it the same way next time?

In your cover letter, please include an example that is as specific as possible, using the STARR method.
