The legacy of the women’s movements and women’s liberation is more relevant today than ever before. Nearly 90 years later, we at Atria—a team of about 25 dedicated colleagues—are working to manage, create, and make accessible knowledge about gender equality, women’s movements, and women’s liberation.
Together, we are working toward our goal of further developing Atria as a knowledge institute and taking the next step in making our research and collections more accessible. But we’re not quite there yet; we are currently seeking a Research Librarian.
If you’re interested in a challenging role in a dynamic environment and you think you’re a good fit for the job description, we’d love to hear from you. Call or email us for more information, or apply now!
Atria collects and manages resources on gender equality, women’s movements, and women’s empowerment, making them accessible to the academic community and society at large. Through research in both national and international contexts, Atria promotes the advancement of knowledge and thereby contributes to the empowerment of women in all their diversity. Our focus on the specific interactions between different groups in society is what makes our collection distinctive and unique.
Atria collects materials to enable academia and society to preserve information and generate new knowledge about the history of women, gender relations, women’s movements, and the evolution of women’s status. The archives contain the primary sources of Dutch women’s movements. The library and databases provide a broad national and international context for these sources. Together, they form a unified whole in which the constituent parts reinforce, enrich, and deepen one another.
As a research librarian, you will be responsible for building and maintaining our research library collection. In this role, you will actively contribute to the development and implementation of collection and acquisition policies and the optimization of services in alignment with users’ information needs. You will contribute to the optimization of work processes and the development of digital innovation for service delivery and knowledge management. In addition, you will represent Atria at conferences and symposia and in national and international networks of specialists in academic information and university libraries.
You are a heritage enthusiast through and through, and the motto “No documents, no history,” coined by one of our founders, Rosa Manus, resonates deeply with you. In your role as a librarian, you put our users first and view complex issues as challenges that you tackle in a focused and efficient manner. In addition, you enjoy working with your colleagues and contribute to a positive and productive team atmosphere. You have an academic degree, preferably supplemented by a postgraduate program in academic librarianship (Information and Library Science, Cultural Information Science, or comparable). If you do not (yet) have this, we expect you to complete this—or a comparable program—within a period to be agreed upon after you start working. You are familiar with the digital aspects of library management and can apply that knowledge in an academic library environment. Strong oral and written proficiency in Dutch and English is essential for this position.
We offer a dynamic work environment with a high degree of autonomy and an enthusiastic and friendly team. The position is a 32–36-hour-per-week contract for a period of one year, with the possibility of extension. You will receive a salary in accordance with Scale 10 of the Social Work Collective Bargaining Agreement, ranging from €3,515 to €5,272 gross per month based on a 36-hour workweek, depending on your knowledge and experience. This includes an Individual Choice Budget, 8.11% vacation pay, a thirteenth month’s salary of 8.96%, and reimbursement of your travel expenses. You will accrue pension benefits through the Healthcare and Welfare Pension Fund. With the Career Budget of 1.5% of your annual salary, you can take a course, training, or educational program to further your professional development.
The application deadline is August 30, 2024, or earlier if we find a suitable candidate.
Are you interested and do you think you’re a good fit for the position? If so, please send an email to solliciteren@atria.nl. We’d like to receive your resume and a response of no more than 500 words answering the question: What requirements do you think a research library should meet in 2025?
