Subject Specialist in Science and Technology Education

Job Description
We are seeking a subject-matter expert in Science and Technology Education to teach subject-specific pedagogy, skills, and content to our students in the elementary education program. Because science education in elementary school combines multiple disciplines, you must be at least an expert in one of the following fields: biology, physics, technology, or chemistry. These disciplines are taught in an integrated manner alongside subject-specific pedagogy for elementary school teachers. Knowledge of or experience with the pedagogy of science education in elementary school is a plus. Preferably, you are also available to take on other tasks, such as guiding students in their professional development and in hands-on learning at elementary schools. We place a strong emphasis on outdoor education and inquiry-based & design-based learning. In the coming academic year, we will also be offering instruction in our newly constructed Outdoor Lab. This allows our students to experience the added value of outdoor education even more fully and grow into independent-minded, worldly—and therefore sustainable— teachers.

Job Requirements

• First- or second-degree teaching certification in biology or physics.
• An interest in and (basic) knowledge of biology, physics, astronomy, chemistry, technology, environmental education, health education, and environmental studies
• Thorough knowledge of subject-specific teaching methods in the areas of inquiry-based and design-based learning, values education, and outdoor education for elementary schools
• Passion for the profession
• Vision for the Training of Teachers

You are skilled at guiding groups of students and know how to share your expertise with students and the professional community in an inspiring way.

• Our college adheres to the collective bargaining agreement for higher professional education, offering an excellent package of primary and secondary employment benefits.
• This is a one-year appointment with the possibility of a permanent position.
• The amount varies by period.
• A salary in pay scale 11 of the HBO collective bargaining agreement (minimum €3,881.09 and maximum €5,332.48 gross per month for full-time employment, plus an 8% vacation allowance and an 8.3% year-end bonus).
• An easily accessible workplace in Rotterdam.
• A generous leave policy that allows you to make your own choices. For example: if you are employed full-time and have chosen a 40-hour workweek, you are entitled to 428 hours of leave per year. This equals 53.5 vacation days. Our leave policy includes mandatory days off as well as national and recognized holidays.
