About the ATD Research Group
The Research Group at the Academy of Theater and Dance focuses on creative practice-based research in performance that has an impact on education, the professional field, and society. This research is conducted in four thematic areas:
Social justice and inclusion, Climate crisis, ecology, and sustainability, Care, well-being, grief and loss, Ways of knowing and not knowing. Our vision begins with the recognition that there is an urgent need for a fundamental rethinking of our relationship with the Earth and the knowledge systems that guide our actions, particularly among those who live in the Global North and are embedded in capitalist and colonial logics.
The ATD Research Group strongly believes in the need for greater equality between different ways of thinking and forms of knowledge. We work with an open definition of research: “A process of inquiry that leads to insights shared with others.”The ATD Research Group focuses on creative practice-based research in the performing arts. Research is conducted within and by the creative practice of the performing arts, including the practice of teaching. The program also gives high priority to research development with the aim of making the Research Group a structural part of the ATD as a whole, and strengthening the connection with research in all phases of the educational cycle—Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctoral programs.
