For this job opening, we are usingan anonymous selection process. Your personal information and resume will not be visible during the initial stages of the selection process. You will be asked to answer a few specific questions. Therefore, you do not need to write a cover letter.

Here’s what you’ll be doing as a technical developer at NS Stations

As a technical developer, you will work on your own projects at our stations to adapt them to the current needs of our passengers. Projects range from the restoration of historic stations and involvement, as the owner, in major station renovations and new construction to smaller renovation projects, such as adapting retail spaces and service facilities to meet the needs of our passengers.

In addition to meeting deadlines, staying within budget, and ensuring quality, we place a high priority on customer satisfaction. The stations will remain open during the renovation, so construction work must be organized in such a way that our passengers can continue to access the station safely and with minimal disruption. Thanks to your technical expertise and organizational skills, you will be invaluable in:

  • Understanding the complexities of construction at a train station and having a knack for managing projects in a political environment.
  • Ensure that the process runs as smoothly as possible, taking into account the interests of all parties involved, including NS Stations as well as external parties such as ProRail, municipalities, and tenants.
  • Overseeing and coordinating activities within NS Stations, working with station managers, leasing managers, technical advisors, and the Bureau Spoorbouwmeester, among others.
  • Overseeing the preparation and implementation of our development projects and programs.
  • Monitoring the planned investment and responding appropriately to unexpected changes, bottlenecks, and shifting needs of tenants/users.
  • Selecting, contracting, and managing architects, consultants, and contractors;
  • Advise, in the capacity of future owner and manager, on development projects involving major new construction or renovation of train stations by ProRail and/or the municipality.

NS Stations brings station areas to life. We develop, operate, and manage stations and station areas. Our goal is to ensure that these are (and remain) pleasant, vibrant, and sustainable locations where travelers and passersby can enjoy spending time, working, and traveling. We want our customers to enjoy using our services and offer businesses unique locations where they can set up shop around a station.

Your desk is waiting for you on the10thfloor of our service office, with a stunning view of the tracks at Utrecht Central Station. Our working hours are flexible, so you can—if you wish—avoid the busy rush hour. Of course, you’ll also regularly be on-site at your projects at one of the stations or meeting with ProRail, municipal advisors, or contractors. Because of the different work locations, you won’t see your 25 fellow developers every day, but that doesn’t make the team spirit any less strong. You’ll regularly visit each other’s projects, share best practices, and wrap up the day with a fun get-together.

At NS, we value diversity and inclusion; it makes working together more enjoyable and often leads to better results. Your background or personal beliefs don’t matter—we’re most interested in hearing your perspective on this Technical Developer role.

These are the job requirements

  • You must have at least a bachelor's degree in architecture or real estate.
  • You have at least 5 years of experience leading projects as a (technical) developer at a consulting firm, construction company, or project developer. Experience and basic knowledge of technical building systems are a plus.
  • You have an excellent command of the Dutch language (at least C1 level), both spoken and written.
  • You are independent, proactive, and results-oriented.
  • You are a good communicator and flexible when working with various stakeholders.
  • You have a strong analytical mind and are adept at addressing business, political, and social interests. You know how to formulate the client’s requirements (e.g., when drafting a statement of requirements) in a way that leaves no room for ambiguity.
  • And, of course, you enjoy working together toward a common goal and value a supportive work environment.

At NS, we believe it’s important to hold each other accountable and always speak our minds. We’re looking for colleagues with initiative, who are open to change and can adapt to it. For this role, these are all crucial factors for success in achieving your goals in collaboration with your team, internal colleagues, and a large number of external partners. For this role in this team, the emphasis is on collaboration. This means that, in addition to your technical expertise (in architecture and building services engineering), you are a strong communicator, can navigate conflicting interests, and are flexible in your approach.

These are the terms of employment

Working at NS means you can make a real difference in the dynamic world of sustainable mobility. You’ll help keep the Netherlands accessible to everyone. At NS, you’ll enjoy a great deal of freedom. There are plenty of opportunities for professional growth. We promise you that no two days will be the same. And as one of the best employers in the Netherlands, we have even more to offer. • The option to exchange 3 Christian holidays for 3 non-Christian holidays.

  • Your train travel in second class is free; you can travel in first class for a small fee.
