Het Nieuwe Instituut in Rotterdam is looking for a
Production Team Leader
(effective July 1, 2022, 36 hours per week)
As Production Team Leader, you are responsible for Het Nieuwe Instituut’s production activities. This includes exhibition projects such asThe Hoodie andMVRDVHNI, as well as special projects like the international architecture conferenceThe World Around and the observation deckHet Podium.
You will organize and coordinate the production of these exhibitions and events, including the weeklyThursday Night Live! program. As a hands-on team leader, you will be on the front lines and will also take on (complex) production tasks yourself. You will provide direct supervision to a team of approximately 5 producers. During peak periods and for special projects, you’ll work with a flexible pool of freelancers. In addition, you’ll serve as a key liaison for overall coordination and planning with other departments, such as operations, finance, and rentals. You’ll report to and work closely with the Head of Programming.
The Program Department consists of the hospitality, program management, and production teams and is generally responsible for Het Nieuwe Instituut’s public program. The entire department—and certainly the production team—works closely with passionate designers, researchers, and artists.
When translating a concept into a tangible product, presentation, or activity, the production team provides the necessary facilities, materials, and personnel, resolves issues, and turns the creative team’s ideas into actionable steps. The program manager and/or curator develop the initial content plans and ideas. Based on those plans, production arranges everything necessary to bring the project to fruition. In addition to their role as organizers, the producers also monitor the budget and schedule.
Core tasks
- Translate the annual program into a production schedule, including task allocation and coordination for Thursday Night Live!
- Managing the production team, providing support and coaching
- Coordination and serving as a point of contact with other departments (scheduling, tasks, etc.)
- Handling personnel matters, conducting performance reviews and development discussions
- Managing production facilities, proposing and implementing improvements (workspaces, storage, equipment, tools, work processes, etc.)
- Monitoring implementation in terms of both quality and quantity across projects, and taking action in the event of deviations
- Handling (complex) production runs
- Ensure that the goal of inclusivity (diversity and inclusion, as well as ecology and sustainability) is upheld within productions and the production team
