The Dutch Foundation for Literature is the public fund for literature in Dutch, Frisian, Papiamento, and Dutch Sign Language. It is one of six national cultural funds that invest in cultural creators, institutions, and projects on behalf of society. The fund supports writers, translators, publishers, and literary organizations to promote the quality, diversity, and dissemination of Dutch literature both at home and abroad.
We are looking for an enthusiastic grants specialist to join the Translated Literature team. The team is dedicated to strengthening the culture of literary translation in the Netherlands and fostering translation talent.
As a grants specialist, you will share responsibility for administering one of our largest grant programs—project grants for literary translations—and for administering the development grants for translators.
You are responsible for ensuring the quality and proper implementation of the program in accordance with the fund’s applicable procedures.
Together with your colleagues, you will serve as the point of contact for individual translators and publishers. You will provide the necessary information and assistance during the application process. You will monitor the progress and effectiveness of the funded projects.
You will build and maintain relationships with a pool of qualified consultants, monitor the quality of the consulting work against the assessment criteria, and facilitate committee meetings.
You will be responsible for raising awareness of and promoting the program among relevant established and new target groups, in collaboration with the communications and process support teams, with the aim of enhancing the diversity and quality of the offerings.
You maintain a relevant network, monitor trends and developments in the field, and translate these into policy. In addition, you may be involved in the team’s programs, overseeing their development, planning, and implementation.
Proficiency in project-based work, budgeting/finance, and overseeing processes.
Knowledge of contemporary international literature and developments in the cultural sector—particularly the literary field—and/or experience with grant systems.
A relevant network within the humanities, preferably including the field of translation, with the ability to identify developments and trends and apply them to the fund’s policies.
A sensitive, proactive approach that takes into account the interests of creative professionals and organizations.
Careful, accurate, and clear written communication in Dutch. Proficiency in at least one foreign language is preferred.
At least 5 years of work experience, preferably in the cultural sector.

We strive for diversity within our organization, teams, activities, partners, and audience reach. That is why we warmly invite anyone who fits this profile to apply, regardless of gender, cultural background, sexual identity, or age. Finally, we believe it is important that you quickly feel at home in the team and at the Fund. We would be happy to work with you to determine what you need to make that happen. If you don’t identify with all the points listed but are enthusiastic about the position, we would still love to receive your application.
