You will assist AUAS students with mental health, psychosocial, and emotional issues that are hindering—or are likely to hinder—their academic progress. During a consultation, you will assess the severity of the issues and work with the student to determine the most appropriate support: group therapy, five individual sessions, or a referral.
Your duties will primarily consist of one-on-one meetings with students and conducting group training sessions for students.
You place a high priority on quality. You are energetic, proactive, and positive, and you enjoy connecting with others and working collaboratively. You hold a bachelor’s degree in psychology with knowledge of psychodiagnostics, and have at least 5 years of experience in individual counseling and training. Additional certifications and training, such as those for a BIG-registered healthcare psychologist or a VGCt-certified cognitive behavioral therapist, are a plus. You have an affinity for addressing academic and student-related issues, particularly among adolescents, and have a strong command of the English language, both spoken and written.
You possess the qualities of empathy, analytical thinking, organizational awareness, strong communication skills, and integrity, which align with your personality. In addition, you identify with the core values of Student Affairs (SZ): flexibility, expertise, and commitment.
You will be working as part of a team of student psychologists consisting of six other colleagues within the Student Well-being Department at SZ. SZ is an Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences (AUAS)-wide department where we work together to ensure equal opportunities for every student. Our services are designed to help all AUAS students successfully complete their studies. Our key focus areas are student well-being, student engagement, and student involvement.
The Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences (HvA) is the university of applied sciences of, for, and with Amsterdam. As one of the largest universities of applied sciences in the Netherlands, we are deeply rooted in Amsterdam. We currently have over 4,000 employees. The city and the surrounding region serve as a rich learning environment for us—an inspiring “laboratory” where students, faculty, lecturers, and external partners collaborate on a single mission: creating tomorrow together.
Talent as a foundation, diversity as a strength
The AUAS aims to be an organization where everyone feels welcome, valued, and at home. As an employer, we believe that the more inclusive we are, the better we can perform as a knowledge institution of and for the city. We therefore strive to ensure that the diversity of backgrounds and perspectives that Amsterdam has to offer is reflected in our university’s workforce.
