A major train accident, a terrorist attack, or a cyberattack on the power grid. The security region’s crisis response team is deployed to manage the situation. Immediately, all kinds of information become available, and it is essential to arrive at a single, concise, powerful, and up-to-date operational picture. Such an operational picture does not just happen. It requires thorough preparation, coordination with crisis partners and other experts, and the integration of information sources. This ensures the information is available when it matters most. Do you know what it takes to organize that?
The Amsterdam-Amstelland Safety Region is working to establish a robust, information-driven crisis response organization that safeguards the well-being of residents. This requires professionals who can bring crisis managers and emergency services together to form a single crisis response organization.
This requires a team of sharp, multidisciplinary information managers and a strong digital information infrastructure. It also requires that crisis partners know how to reach the safety region—and vice versa. In this way, as we prepare for a crisis, we build a robust information organization so that we can hit the ground running during the crisis and immediately have a clear picture of the situation. We are looking for a Strategic Crisis Management Advisor who will be the linchpin of this development.
We are looking for a Strategic Crisis Management Advisor to focus on information-driven crisis management. This means we are seeking someone with expertise in crisis management—someone who will maintain the information infrastructure for the crisis response organization and also drive its further development. In recent years, the foundation for multidisciplinary information management has been laid within the safety region. We are now continuing to improve our information capabilities.
As a Strategic Advisor, you do this by mobilizing our crisis partners to collaborate during a crisis. You translate the needs of our crisis managers into appropriate support systems. You do this with crisis managers within the safety region, but you also work closely with other safety regions, ministries, water boards, companies, and supraregional partnerships. You do this in direct contact with other organizations and represent the safety region in regional and national consultation networks.
Your main responsibilities will be:
In addition, you are willing to serve on call for the crisis management team. As an expert in information-driven crisis management, this could involve, for example, the role of multidisciplinary information manager. Serving on call does, however, require that you be able to reach the Amsterdam-Amstelland Safety Region within an hour.
First and foremost, we’re looking for a great colleague who’s a pleasure to work with. You know how to engage people in what you do. You’re open, communicative, goal-oriented, analytical, creative, and meticulous. You’re an enthusiastic colleague who enjoys working as part of a team and can work independently.
You have knowledge of and experience with crisis management. You also understand the importance of having a clear picture of the situation during a crisis. You can convey that expertise with enthusiasm and authority to crisis managers in our safety region, and you can also communicate ideas and requirements to information specialists who help us build the information systems we need. You do this through a project-based approach so that people understand the steps you are taking in the development process you are leading.
You thrive on building bridges between different disciplines and organizations. You know how to actively engage people and have the persuasive power to guide them through the necessary changes. You thrive in a rapidly evolving environment and already have a clear vision of where the crisis organization’s information branch should be in a few years. Naturally, you’ll be able to effectively involve our key crisis partners and colleagues from other safety regions in this process.
A challenging and dynamic work environment that is constantly evolving and where there is always plenty to do. No two days are the same. You’ll work alongside a team of dedicated professionals who are all committed to creating a safe and livable society. In addition, you can count on:
Within our safety region, six municipalities, the fire department, medical services, the police, the public prosecutor’s office, and other public and private (safety) partners work together. We manage risks, provide fire and rescue services, and prepare for crises.
In the Crisis Management Division of the Amsterdam-Amstelland Safety Region, we ensure that the safety region’s crisis response organization is ready to act during crises. We ensure that crisis response personnel are on standby, organize drills, develop plans, establish contacts with businesses and other government agencies, and advise mayors. When the time comes, you and your colleagues will be ready to spring into action—for example, as a crisis manager, information manager, or spokesperson. No two days are the same, but every day matters.
You will be working in the Crisis Management Preparation Team. We ensure that the crisis management structure remains in order: crisis response personnel have been recruited and trained, and they have access to all necessary resources and crisis response facilities to respond quickly to a crisis. They do this based on detailed and up-to-date crisis plans and a current, widely shared situational picture. The team prepares the crisis management organization for events and other high-risk situations.
