More about this organization
A historic brick building with green roofs, viewed through a drawbridge, with a red H'ART Museum banner on the facade.

Do you touch people’s hearts with your unique voice and perspective on art? Then H’ART Museum is looking for you. In collaboration with the Centre Pompidou, H’ART Museum will open its first exhibition in mid-June 2024: Kandinsky. Are you our narrative developer?

You want to make a difference. And you’re well-equipped to do so, as you have your own unique and socially relevant perspective on culture and art (history). A perspective that speaks on behalf of and to a segment of society that is underrepresented in the world of heritage and museums, both in terms of what is exhibited and for whom it is exhibited. You are aware of your target audience, current events, and recent developments, as well as the importance of diversity, and with this in mind, you are intrinsically motivated to contribute to the world of art and culture. Whether you are a designer, playwright, journalist, scientist, scholar, or expert in any field or profession, you are a creative person with ideas, as well as the network and practical skills to contribute to creating an exhibition both independently and in collaboration with others.

Does that sound like you? Then this project is right up your alley: from February through November 2024, H’ART Museum is looking fortwo narrative developers forthe upcoming Kandinsky exhibition. The two selected themes are “Kandinsky and music” and “Kandinsky the traveler,” but you might surprise us with an even better idea.

This is who you are

You are joining our organization at a very special moment in time. H’ART Museum is preparing for its first exhibition in collaboration with one of its international museum partners, the Centre Pompidou in Paris: Kandinsky (open from mid-June to November 3, 2024). Marking a major milestone for H’ART Museum, this inaugural exhibition aims to fulfill our mission and vision for the museum. This entails a multiplicity of voices, a diversity of perspectives, and a new and diverse audience. Drawing on your expertise and background, you will touch the hearts of a new audience and inspire them to visit H’ART Museum. To achieve this, it is important that you …

  • are or aspire to be an ambassador for one of H’ARTMuseum’s key target audiences: you know what interests them, what resonates with them, and what motivates them
  • have a broad, creative, and critical perspective on art and art history
  • have a passion for culture, museums, and exhibitions, current events, and diversity
  • work well both independently and in a group
  • are a skilled communicator, both in speech and in writing
  • are creative, proactive, and results-oriented
  • You don’t feel any nervousness or a lump in your throat when you hear or think of the words “audience” and “stage.” On the contrary, you feel at ease when you step into the public eye
  • can assume, carry out, and relinquish responsibilities: H’ART Museum retains ultimate responsibility
  • are available from February 1 through November 3. Your schedule will be determined by mutual agreement, but the bulk of your work will be concentrated in the months from February through July

Here's what your day will look like

H’ART Museum strives to touch the hearts of new audiences and seeks to connect with today’s society through a multifaceted exploration and presentation of historical and contemporary art. To that end, H’ART Museum collaborates with constantly evolving teams of curators, specialized guest curators, and, as of now, narrative developers. As our narrative developer for the Kandinsky exhibition, you will be responsible for the following:

  • Using the collection, your expertise, and your target audience as your starting point, you will design one of the exhibition’s storylines: “Kandinsky and Music,” “Kandinsky the Traveler,” or your own proposal for a storyline. You will already have an idea in mind when you begin working with us, and you will contribute to both its conceptualization and execution
  • You will draft a proposal and an implementation plan, including a detailed breakdown of costs, all in accordance with the existing project plan. Regular check-ins and decision points will be a standard part of the process
  • You will participate in meetings with various departments, primarily the exhibitions, press, communications, and marketing departments
  • You are a representative of one of H’ART Museum’s key target audiences, you are comfortable expressing that, and you attract new visitors to the museum
  • You speak to people in public, from the press to audiences of varying sizes, sometimes on stage
  • You brief the museum’s tour guides on your section of the exhibition
  • You will report to the head of the exhibitions department and the curator of the Kandinsky exhibition

This is who we are

H’ART Museum is a growing creative organization. The museum organizes an average of three exhibitions per year in collaboration with international museums. The organization is committed to providing a broad audience with access to culture in all its forms. That is why it places great importance on a diverse and inclusive work environment.

You will be working at H’ART Museum—previously known as Hermitage Amsterdam until September 1, 2023. The museum’s mission is to exhibit art from all eras—art that, through its stories, opens our eyes, touches our hearts, and shows us the world of yesterday, today, and tomorrow. Because Great Art Sparks Hearts. Every exhibition is carefully curated through a contemporary lens and actively creates and maintains space for diverse perspectives—for art lovers, those seeking an experience, and day-trippers alike.

Here's what we offer

What do we offer you in return? In addition to a position at a prestigious museum that is currently going through a very unique and exciting period, you will receive

  • a fee of €4,000 in total, excluding VAT
  • the opportunity to contribute to the inaugural exhibition at H’ART Museum
  • a lot of freedom to organize your work as you see fit
  • access to special openings, exhibitions, and a variety of events
  • a position on a small, motivated team where your perspective and expertise are highly valued

Are you as excited about this opportunity as you were when you first saw this ad? There’s no time to waste! And there’s no need to overthink it, because we’ve made it easy for you: send your resume and a few catchy keywords—three will do—to Celina Wisselo and Giel Maan at hr@hartmuseum.nl, and we’ll be in touch!
