The Van Abbemuseum in Eindhoven is one of Europe’s leading museums of contemporary art. The museum boasts an extensive international collection of over 3,400 works of art, ranging from well-known contemporary artists such as Tania Bruguera, Marlene Dumas, and Iris Kensmil to modern masters such as Oskar Kokoschka, Piet Mondrian, and Pablo Picasso. The museum addresses questions regarding art and society in an experimental manner.
You will be responsible for engaging the public within the museum. You will do this by developing a strategic multi-year plan, overseeing and contributing to its operational implementation, and evaluating projects and activities. With your expertise in accessible and inclusive public engagement, you will make a significant contribution to the further development of an inclusive and experimental museum.
In the coming years, we will focus heavily on making our existing public engagement programs more sustainable and streamlined. In addition, we aim to increase our (social) impact and bring as many people as possible into contact with art through accessible and relatable programming. Our regular public engagement offerings include gallery texts, videos, and multimedia tours. At the Van Abbemuseum, we’re taking it a step further; with our current collection presentation *Dwarsverbanden* , we ’ve developed an exhibition where you can experience art with all your senses. With over 25 multisensory tools, including texts in Braille, scent interpretations, tactile drawings, and soundscapes, *Dwarsverbanden* is the first fully multisensory collection presentation in the Netherlands.
Within the museum, you will work closely with two colleagues from the Outreach (constituency organizer) and Education (education officer) teams. You will also be part of the EMBF team, which consists of: Events, Marketing, Outreach, and Fundraising. Other colleagues include the Collections team (Conservation and Management), Curators, Tour Guides, and Hosts. Outside the museum, you will collaborate with various parties, such as regional and (inter)national partners, project staff (including writers, designers, and filmmakers), and other museums.
As a museum, we believe that diverse teams achieve better results. That is why we look forward to receiving your application if you meet our requirements—regardless of your background, sex/gender, disability, sexual orientation, religion/beliefs, or age.
The application deadline is May 29, 2023. In your cover letter, we’d love to hear how you plan to use your talents to contribute to Eindhoven. If you have any questions about the application process or employment terms, please contact Joost van den Eijnden, recruiter, at 06-24502432. Do you have any questions about the position itself?
