Our society is changing. For example, due to urbanization and the adoption of new architectural styles. Or through the use of new energy sources and other adaptations to a changing climate. As a safety region, we believe it is important that buildings are constructed with fire safety in mind, but we also want to be well-prepared in case things do go wrong. Would you like to help us bring those two worlds together?
With your expertise in fire safety, you’ll serve as the link between our risk management department and the emergency response services. You’ll share fire prevention knowledge with colleagues who are on standby day in and day out to respond to incidents. Conversely, insights from the emergency response team also provide valuable information. For example, to better align our fire safety recommendations with real-world practice. It’s up to you to bring these two worlds together. But that’s not all. You’ll also use your knowledge and experience to raise awareness among users of high-risk locations about the dangers and encourage them to take preventive measures. You’ll visit places that remain hidden to many—from the cellars of the Royal Palace on Dam Square to the attic of the Concertgebouw. Or you’ll ensure that visitors to major events like King’s Day and Amsterdam Dance Event can evacuate safely.
You have a solid understanding of the law and know how to achieve your goals through tact and expertise. After all, regulations often lag behind current safety insights. Our department invests heavily in anticipating safety issues related to developments such as the energy transition and climate adaptation. By facilitating this interaction, you also contribute to these efforts.
One of our experienced colleagues is retiring, and we want to retain his knowledge and extensive network. During the initial phase of your appointment, you will therefore spend a lot of time working alongside him and learning on the job. In our dynamic region, the rewarding role of specialist is one that you must grow into through hands-on experience.
You’re a connector. You easily fit into any environment and demonstrate your value there. You’re just as comfortable talking to a business-minded entrepreneur as you are to a commander who has to make life-or-death decisions under intense time pressure. You adapt easily, because no two days are the same. You’re a team player, but you’re also comfortable working independently. That requires an entrepreneurial mindset. You know the high-risk locations in our region and take the initiative to establish and maintain contacts.
Of course, you have a solid understanding of building codes and, specifically, fire prevention measures. If you don’t yet have this knowledge, you’re willing to invest in gaining it. Ideally, you have a background in firefighting—for example, as a firefighter, volunteer, or officer. In any case, you have an affinity for the “front-line” side of our organization.
