The Leerorkest Nederland Foundation runs an ambitious music education program with a social mission. Making music enriches lives, which is why we believe every child has the right to a music education. We operate nationwide, with initiatives such as the Instrument Depot for lending musical instruments. In Amsterdam, our programs in and around schools reach thousands of children and young people. Our home base is Amsterdam-Zuidoost, and we are housed at Muziekcentrum Zuidoost. Both foundations work closely together and share a single Management Team.
Three years ago, a social pedagogy coordinator was appointed with funding from an external grant, with the goal of developing a social pedagogy approach. Since then, we have developed a parent participation program, established a network with organizations in the social and cultural sectors, and launched a professional development program on social pedagogy for Leerorkest teachers.
We are looking for a social worker who will sustain, maintain, and further develop the Leerorkest’s established social-pedagogical approach. In this role, you will focus on three main tasks:
The Leerorkest Nederland Foundation is based in Amsterdam Zuidoost. Here, we work with a dedicated team of staff to promote equal opportunity in the city through music education. We endorse the Cultural Diversity Code and strive as an organization to reflect society. Every talent is welcome. We are particularly interested in your qualities and how you can contribute to our team; familiarity with Amsterdam Zuidoost is a plus.
We are looking for a social worker who is passionate about our mission. You have excellent organizational skills, are a natural at building relationships, and understand the purpose, structure, and value of a Neighborhood Talent Orchestra. You are able to identify and recognize the barriers, challenges, and opportunities facing our children and respond with the appropriate intervention. You have a relevant network of people and organizations in the social sector and are able to maintain and expand this network effectively.
You think and adapt quickly, are results-oriented, and know how to inspire others with your enthusiasm. You’re someone who’s comfortable in social situations; you’re approachable, enterprising, and have experience setting up and implementing social projects.
You are an excellent listener at all levels—from parents to teachers, from children to school principals—and are able to think and work at both the macro and micro levels. You serve as both an advisor and a coach and are capable of implementing appropriate interventions. You report to the Head of Education and attend the Sounding Board meetings and discussions regarding the Neighborhood Talent Orchestra.
If you see yourself in the job description above and are passionate about music education, you’re more than welcome to join our team!
