The position
In the role of Senior Building Permit Officer, you will be responsible for processing (highly) complex and multidisciplinary permit applications. You will coordinate the process and the interaction between the various parties involved in the application. In addition, you will inform and advise management, the regional teams, and the board. You have a natural talent for fostering collaborative teamwork. As a senior, you will serve as a mentor and sounding board for your colleagues on substantive matters. You will also play a role in training new colleagues. In addition to your regular duties, you will also regularly take on tasks that affect the entire team, such as work distribution or coordination with the local executive board.
Here's what you do on an average day:
- You will review complex and politically sensitive applications and ensure that environmental permit applications are processed efficiently.
- You will coordinate internally and externally with various disciplines, such as area teams, urban design, economics, urban planning, parking, and traffic. In doing so, you will also actively coordinate with supply chain partners such as Waternet, the Environmental Services Agency, the Municipal Health Service (GGD), Housing, etc.
- You will play a coordinating role within the team, maintaining close communication with the other teams within Permits, Supervision, and Enforcement.
- You will advise the district organization’s area teams, the board, and (municipal) policymakers on matters related to Permits, Oversight, and Enforcement.
- You will help further develop and implement processes and protocols, and promote proper record-keeping by the team.
- You serve as a content coach and sounding board for your colleagues on both content and process.
This is where you get started
We strive to be a great employer that ensures all our colleagues feel seen and valued. We embrace the differences among our colleagues; these differences lead to better results for both our organization and our city. We aim to build a workforce that reflects Amsterdam’s diverse population. So, whoever you are, you’re more than welcome here!
You will be working at the West District Office at our location at Bos en Lommerplein 250. The West District comprises the neighborhoods of Oud-West, De Baarsjes, Westerpark, and Bos en Lommer. This area is characterized by a wide variety of application types that are processed. For example, the Oud-West area is a very densely populated area, whereas in Bos en Lommer there is still a lot of potential and major projects are underway. This diversity also brings with it a nice variety of application types.
The Building Permits team strikes a good balance between highly experienced colleagues and new talent, who learn from one another and assist each other as needed. Close collaboration is central, not only within the team itself, but also with legal experts, regulators, and external parties. The Building Permits team is part of the Permits, Supervision & Enforcement Department and is represented separately in each city district. We strive for a working method that is as uniform as possible across city districts, while recognizing that each district has its own unique characteristics.
