As a communications advisor/spokesperson, you will serve as the primary point of contact for the press and work closely with the National Coordinator against Discrimination and Racism (NCDR) to raise the NCDR’s profile. You will do this, among other things, by drawing attention to relevant issues in the areas of discrimination and racism.
This role focuses on public speaking, press relations, maintaining media relationships, and writing and curating content for social media, the website, and LinkedIn. You will prepare for press conferences and develop messaging, handle inquiries, update FAQs, write blogs, news articles, and speeches, and assist the national coordinator with media appearances and interviews. In the role of communications advisor, you are responsible for the NCDR’s communications strategy and (visual) presentation. You manage a design agency that handles the implementation of these initiatives. Within the NCDR, you frequently coordinate content-related matters with various colleagues.
Job Requirements
When it comes to communication, you’re a true all-rounder. You have a keen sense of newsworthiness, understand the political and administrative sensitivities of the issues the NCDR deals with, and can provide strategic advice on them. At the same time, you have a hands-on and practical approach: you enjoy writing and can just as easily draft a news release as a tweet, invitation, or opinion piece. You’re also a skilled networker: you enjoy maintaining contacts with your NCDR colleagues, spokespersons at other organizations, and, of course, journalists. Furthermore, you are adept at using social media: the NCDR posts almost daily on Twitter and LinkedIn, thereby reaching a growing group of relevant stakeholders and interested citizens. It helps if you have a vision for how to position a new institution like the NCDR in the market, including in terms of branding and positioning. You have at least ten years of experience in the communications field, including five years in an all-around communications role, where press relations and (proactive) media relations management are a key part of your work. You preferably have a college degree. Additionally, you have a demonstrable affinity with the NCDR’s field of work.
Terms of Employment
In addition to your salary, you will receive an Individual Choice Budget (ICB). The ICB consists of money (16.37% of your gross annual salary) and time. With the ICB, you can make choices that suit you and customize part of your employment benefits. For example, you can choose to have a portion of your monthly income paid out whenever you wish. You can also convert this budget into leave and vice versa, or spend it on tax-friendly purposes. The Dutch government is strongly committed to personal growth and career development and offers numerous opportunities for this. Secondary employment conditions include various study facilities, company fitness programs, full reimbursement of your public transportation costs for commuting, and partially paid parental leave.Diversity is a key principle in the composition of the NCDR’s board. Different perspectives, backgrounds, and insights enhance the board’s collective intellectual capacity.
