The Woonbond is the voice of renters and those seeking housing in the Netherlands. Through hundreds of tenant organizations and 10,000 individual members, we represent more than 1.5 million renting households.
As an advocacy organization, the Woonbond is committed to ensuring an adequate supply of good-quality, affordable housing, livable neighborhoods, and a strong position for housing seekers, tenants, and their organizations in both the social and commercial rental sectors. The Woonbond offers its members expertise and services such as legal assistance, mediation, advice, and information through magazines and other publications. The Woonbond also offers paid services such as educational programs, training courses, comprehensive consulting projects, and research studies.
What will you be doing?
As a senior editor (36 hours per week), you will share responsibility for the content and quality of the quarterly magazines *Huurpeil*, a trade journal for the rental sector, and *Huurwijzer*, a housing magazine for tenants. You will write and edit articles and ensure accurate facts, error-free language, and inspiring content in our magazines.
In addition, you will share responsibility for producing a number of books each year. You will coordinate the production processes, guide experts in creating content, and oversee planning, editing, final editing, visual materials, and other production tasks. Finally, you will contribute to the innovation of all our publications, both in print and digital formats.
The editorial staff of the Woonbond consists of an editor-in-chief and an editor, and we have our own graphic designer. We are responsible for publishing two quarterly magazines, several books, and other publications.
The Woonbond editorial team is working at a high pace. This involves editorial brainstorming sessions, research, interviews, and writing, writing, writing—and, of course, feedback and some much-needed relaxation after a deadline. The editorial team operates independently of the Woonbond’s communications department but does collaborate with it, including on content for www.woonbond.nl.
What will you be writing about?
As part of the Woonbond editorial team, you’ll be writing nonstop about pressing issues and everything that affects tenants and those looking for housing. The housing crisis is at its peak, and there’s no end in sight. We cover every aspect of it—always from the residents’ perspective. This means that policy, bureaucracy, research, politics, finance, and new developments are always translated into what they mean for tenants and those looking for housing. Of course, we also give residents a voice in these matters.
This is you
A journalist who knows how to get things done and isn’t afraid to take responsibility and initiative. You have a knack for finding great stories and are bursting with original ideas. You don’t have a nine-to-five mentality and are eager to learn. You love diving deep into stories and can present complex information clearly and in a structured way. You are strict about deadlines and other commitments. Experience in media innovation is a plus. We prefer someone with knowledge of the rental sector and a commitment to residents.
The Woonbond is actively working to make the organization more diverse and inclusive. We believe it is important for our team to be as diverse as our target audience. We encourage candidates from all backgrounds and with all identities to apply.
