“You make sure that training and development matter—for the entire hospitality industry”

The hospitality industry faces major challenges: workforce recruitment, skilled labor, talent retention, and careers that are future-proof and adaptable to life changes. As a Senior Training and Development Specialist, you play a key role in how the industry addresses these challenges. You have a direct impact on—and make a visible contribution to—the future of work and skilled labor in the hospitality industry.

You effortlessly balance bringing our training and development policies to life across our business units while also firmly establishing training and development as a priority within the organization. You provide substantive input to the board and ensure that training and development remain on the agenda, including by participating in relevant advisory bodies and working groups.

With your experience in policy development and (vocational) education, are you able to implement and promote our policies within the hospitality sector? In addition, can you steer this policy, build bridges, and foster connections between education, the labor market (employers and employees), and advocacy, thereby strengthening the position of employees? Can you promote the sustainable recruitment, advancement, and retention of skilled professionals? And can you ensure that training and development are structurally embedded in collective bargaining agreements, sectoral agreements, and the strategy of De Horecabond? Then we’re looking for you!

We want to guide, connect, and invest in growth and craftsmanship within our sectors. If we want working in the hospitality industry to remain a rewarding career, we must invest today in the people of tomorrow!

What will you be doing?

1. Putting our policy into practice

  • You will develop policy guidelines into concrete proposals, projects, and partnerships.
  • You link training and development to labor market issues and broader sector challenges.
  • You will ensure that learning and development become a structural part of collective bargaining agreements and sector-wide agreements.
  • You ensure consistency, direction, and goals.

2. Brainstorming and providing advice

  • You serve as a strong, knowledgeable sounding board for management and colleagues.
  • You translate industry trends into clear positions and recommendations for the board.

3. Represent and strengthen training and development in the sector

  • You're doing what's best for the industry.
  • You will represent and promote the Horecabond to educational partners and relevant consultative bodies.
  • You maintain close contact with employers, industry associations, educational institutions, the SBB, government agencies, executives, members, and instructors.
  • You are actively building a relevant network.
  • You’re visible, you contribute ideas, and you get involved.

4. Making training and development visible within the organization

  • You ensure that this topic receives consistent attention within projects.
  • You connect colleagues and initiatives.
  • You will link training and development to collective bargaining agreements, the labor market, communication, and business operations.
  • You will serve as the internal point of contact and driving force for this initiative.

In a leadership role, you will ensure continuity, accessibility, and knowledge development. You will be part of the CBB (Collective Advocacy) team and will work closely with colleagues, your manager, and the Marketing & Communications and Operations departments. You will report substantively to the board, which has ultimate responsibility for the organization’s direction and policy frameworks.

What do you bring to the table?

You are passionate about building relationships, connecting people, learning, professional development, and the job market. You have strong organizational skills! You are a team player, results-oriented, self-reliant, analytical, and an excellent communicator.

You believe it is important that craftsmanship in the hospitality industry is valued and that employees have opportunities for professional growth. You want to work in sectors where employees can take pride in their work!

You should also bring:

  • College-level work and thinking skills. A background in educational science, learning and development, the public sector, social sciences, administration, and policy is preferred.
  • At least 3–5 years of relevant work experience in the public sector, education, or the labor market.
  • Demonstrable experience with administrative collaboration and relationships, for example in steering committees, consultative bodies, and/or R&D funds.
  • Extensive experience in translating and implementing policy.
  • Experience with strategic partnerships.
  • Knowledge of industry representation, including an understanding of collective bargaining agreement structures.
  • Knowledge of vocational education and current labor market trends.
  • Class B driver's license.
  • An affinity for our hospitality sectors.

What do we offer you?

  • An independent and influential role, with ample opportunity to make a social impact.
  • A forward-thinking organization where your ideas are welcome.
  • A dedicated and close-knit team of colleagues who support one another and with whom you’ll work to shape the future of the Dutch workforce.
  • A contract for 32 hours per week (which is considered full-time at De Horecabond) | 24 hours is negotiable
  • A competitive salary based on Scale 11 of the FNV collective bargaining agreement (€3,603.26 – €4,864.99) on a full-time basis.
  • Generous employee benefits, including a mobility allowance
  • Plenty of room for personal growth
  • A hybrid work structure: at home, in the field, and at our office in Almere

Our Core Values

Our guiding principles for attitude, behavior, and leadership within our organization. As a senior training and development specialist, you are familiar with these core values and act in accordance with them, inspiring others to do the same in everything you do.

  • Forward-thinking: sees opportunities and isn’t afraid to think outside the box.
  • Passionate: driven to make a real difference for our members.
  • Expert: Substantive expertise and reliability in both advice and execution.
  • Helpful: approachable and committed to supporting colleagues and members.
  • Connecting: actively seeks collaboration and builds bridges both within and outside the organization.
