A job where you can put your construction expertise to good use and also help create a great learning environment for 3,000 art college students: does that sound like the perfect combination? Then this is the job for you!
The AHK Service Bureau is looking for a candidate for the Housing and Facilities Management Department:
Senior (M/F) Project Manager (0.8–1.0 FTE)
Who are we?
The Amsterdam University of the Arts (AHK) has a unique portfolio of properties, and we are proud of it. Our educational buildings are located in the heart of Amsterdam, and most of them are owned by the university. The portfolio includes a mix of modern buildings with state-of-the-art classrooms, studios, workshops, and performance spaces, as well as national and regional monuments and a few leased properties.
The Housing and Management Department manages the entire real estate portfolio with a small, dedicated team, working closely with the academies. Our team consists of a Head of Housing, two project managers, a technical facility manager, and a facility coordinator. We will soon be welcoming a sustainability coordinator as well. We focus on real estate strategy, project development, new construction, sustainability, technical and facility management, maintenance, and contract management.
The AHK Service Bureau also comprises Corporate Control, Central Administration & Procurement, IT & Automation, Facilities Management, Human Resources, Education, Research, and Communications.
What will you be doing?
You will carefully prepare challenging and high-impact (long-term) housing projects, even within an environment that can sometimes be politically complex. You will analyze development needs, define requirements, and translate these into a clear project plan. In doing so, you will ensure that the necessary technical information, cost estimates, planning documents, and appropriate management mechanisms are in place.
The projects are diverse and valuable: ranging from small-scale renovations to new construction, remodeling, maintenance, and energy transition. You will guide internal stakeholders in defining their needs and translate these into concrete actions within your projects.
The Amsterdam University of the Arts (AHK) aims to be fully energy-neutral by 2035. You will play a direct role in achieving this: sustainability is a central theme in your work. You apply your knowledge of making real estate and facilities more sustainable in a practical and effective way. In doing so, you work closely with the Sustainability Coordinator and the Technical Facility Manager. Together, you ensure future-proof learning and working environments and high-quality services that result in sustainable, optimally functioning educational buildings.
Who are you?
You are a process-oriented project manager with knowledge of real estate, building systems, facility management and maintenance, and relevant laws and regulations. You are attuned to the diverse interests of end users and are skilled at interacting effectively at various levels both within and outside the organization. Planning, organizing, and working on projects energize you.
You value teamwork, but you’re also capable of taking responsibility on your own. You hold yourself to high standards, are constructively critical, and are committed to continuous improvement. You have an affinity for education, want to make a social impact, and possess strong persuasive skills as a consultant. In addition, you’re decisive, resilient under pressure, and flexible.
What do you bring to the table?
- HBO-level education and thinking skills, with a background in architecture or extensive experience with electrical and mechanical systems in building services engineering, commercial construction, or renovation;
- Thorough knowledge of sustainable systems;
- Experience independently managing projects from initial contact through to commissioning;
- Strong organizational skills, a hands-on approach, and the ability to think and act in an interdisciplinary manner;
- A practical and solution-oriented approach;
- A service-oriented attitude and excellent communication skills at all levels, enabling you to engage others in your thought process and work.
What do we offer?
A challenging role focused on the learning and working environment for students and staff, as part of a dynamic team of colleagues, with an office located right in the heart of Amsterdam. Working from home is an option (subject to agreement), and we provide the necessary equipment for remote work.
We are offering a one-year contract with the possibility of permanent employment. The position is classified under scale 11 of the HBO collective bargaining agreement (advisory staff member - C, max. €6,359.47 gross for full-time employment). Salary placement depends in part on education and experience. We offer a competitive benefits package, including an 8.3% year-end bonus and a solid pension plan. If you join our team, we will require a Certificate of Good Conduct (VOG) upon your start date.
