The role
As a Senior Educator, you are the one who brings our engagement with the public to life. You serve as the link between exhibition curators, target audiences, teachers, schoolchildren, and students, and you develop educational content and programs for the exhibitions that inspire, enrich, and engage. You are a go-getter who sees what is possible, and you know how to get both colleagues and the public excited about the (educational) program. With your experience in the cultural sector and your knowledge of educational pedagogy, you play a key role in the success of our educational initiatives.
Together with the Head of Exhibitions and Education, you will help further develop the team. You will contribute to the mission and vision of De Nieuwe Kerk | H’ART Museum and shape the educational policy for both institutions. In addition, you will develop various educational programs, ensure innovation within existing programs, and engage with the public to promote our educational vision. Through content overviews and financial reports, you will provide your colleagues and stakeholders, such as funding organizations, with clear insights into how De Nieuwe Kerk | H’ART Museum Education makes a difference.
What will you be doing?
- Contribute to the mission and vision of De Nieuwe Kerk | H’ART Museum and develop the education policy for both institutions, in collaboration with the department head.
- Organizing meetings with practitioners and other experts in the field of education and promoting our educational vision to the public.
- In consultation with the project group, develop various communication tools based on the exhibition concept and the identified target audiences.
- Developing and coordinating educational materials and programs for various target audiences.
- Maintain contact with museum educators and various schools and educational programs, and involve them in the content and planning of the program.
- Oversee the logistical planning and organization of workshops and other activities to ensure their successful execution.
- Initiating new ideas and projects that introduce visitors, schoolchildren, and students to art and culture in a creative and accessible way.
- Preparing reports for the Development Department to keep stakeholders informed about educational projects.
- Manage the sub-budget for public outreach and educational programs, in consultation with the department head.
What we offer
- An inspiring and varied position for 30 hours per week (0.8 FTE; a full-time workweek is 37.5 hours) right in the heart of cultural Amsterdam.
- Depending on your knowledge, skills, and experience, your salary will be placed in pay grade 9: €3,023–€4,337 gross based on full-time employment, plus an 8% vacation allowance.
- 25 days of vacation, some of which you can choose yourself.
- Travel expense reimbursement in accordance with the policy of De Nieuwe Kerk | H’ART Museum.

In this role, you will work closely with your colleagues in the Exhibitions and Education department. You will ensure that the exhibitions and programs are tailored to the target audiences, particularly the students in elementary, secondary, and vocational schools served by H’ART Museum Education.
Who are we looking for?
The ideal candidate is a driven organizer and networker who:
- Has at least 3–5 years of experience in a similar position within the cultural sector.
- Preferably holds a teaching certification and has pedagogical knowledge.
- Has a command of Dutch at a minimum C2 level and can write clearly and accessibly for various educational audiences.
- Has a vision for art education in museums and can think strategically.
- Has knowledge of audience reach and audience engagement.
- Has knowledge of primary, secondary, and vocational education.
- Practical, solution-oriented, and proactive, and enjoys setting up and executing projects.
- Is able to collaborate effectively with various target groups and stakeholders.
- Has strong administrative skills and is good with budgets.
- A charismatic and skilled speaker who inspires and energizes their audience, making people eager to listen to them.
- Approaches challenges with a positive mindset; focuses on what is possible and helps overcome obstacles.
- is eager to inspire different audiences to take an interest in art and culture.
