Job Description

As a communications advisor, you will be responsible for the WKR’s communications at the strategic, tactical, and operational levels. The Communications Department is part of the WKR Secretariat. You will liaise with the Communications Directorate of the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy (EZK) as needed. You will participate in internal meetings and advise the Secretary-Director and the (Council) Advisors on current and future communications. You may occasionally serve as a spokesperson.

You will begin by developing the communication strategy, the foundation of which is currently being laid. This communication strategy must contribute to the effective positioning of the WKR. You will also organize communications related to the WKR’s recommendations. This includes writing content for the website and social media, communicating with government officials, and organizing events. You will be responsible for the content on the website and ensuring consistency in all WKR communications. From the outset, you will be involved in preparing the various recommendations to ensure they have an impact after publication.

You will also maintain contact with relevant stakeholders and identify opportunities for collaboration, potential risks, and relevant developments for the WKR.

The advisory work will be approached from a wide range of academic perspectives. This requires you to be able to translate academic texts into accessible communications. In doing so, you will play a mentoring role for your fellow communications advisors and other secretariat staff. 

What will you be doing?

Your responsibilities:

  • The chair, board members, and the executive director provide guidance on the communication of advisory projects and the positioning of the WKR.
  • Working with fellow advisors to develop various communications related to recommendations or current events pertaining to the WKR.
  • Managing online communications (website and social media) and assisting council members with interviews, presentations, and webinars.
  • Managing external contractors for publications and events.
  • Contribute to internal communication and the planning of team-building days.
  • Drafting internal documents such as the work program, annual report, and evaluations.
  • When necessary, act as a spokesperson and point of contact for external parties, including government officials and political leaders.

Job Requirements

  • Experience working with knowledge-intensive organizations. Preferably with experience in science communication.
  • Academic-level thinking and work skills, and a relevant degree in communication.
  • Experience in translating complex scientific documents into clear, accessible texts and communications.
  • An interest in and experience with climate issues.
  • Experience with or an interest in developing and promoting new organizations or organizational units is a plus.
  • Experience with project-based work.
  • Strong writing and presentation skills.
  • Networking skills.
  • Prepared to switch flexibly between strategic, tactical, and operational tasks

Terms of Employment

Salary level: Grade 12

Monthly salary: Min. €4,092 – Max. €6,045 (gross)

Employment status: Permanent employment contract

Minimum number of hours per week: 32

Maximum number of hours per week: 36

Details

  • The introductory and selection process consists of at least two rounds of interviews and a final discussion regarding terms of employment.

  • Colleagues within the central government who are permanent employees may be seconded or transferred while retaining their current employment status.
  • If you do not (yet) have a permanent position as a civil servant, you will start with a temporary position with the prospect of a permanent one.
