Senior Communications Advisor (Temporary)

About the National Committee for May 4 and 5 

For more than 35 years, the National Committee has been dedicated to commemorating, celebrating, and keeping alive the memory of World War II. Among other things, we organize the National Remembrance Ceremony on Dam Square on May 4 and the National Liberation Celebration on May 5, featuring the May 5 Lecture, Freedom Dinners, 14 Liberation Festivals, and the May 5 Concert. In addition, we develop campaigns and educational projects and conduct research on how people commemorate and experience freedom. 

What will you be doing? 

As a senior communications advisor, you will be responsible for public communications and PR related to the National Committee’s projects, working alongside your colleagues in the Communications Department. In this temporary role: 

• Are you responsible for the various channels of the National Committee for May 4 and 5: the website, social media channels, and newsletter; 
• You will work with project leaders on the strategy and implementation of communications related to Liberation Festivals, Freedom Dinners, and educational resources; 
• Are you responsible for public relations related to commemorations and celebrations on May 4 and 5, as well as events throughout the rest of the year; 
• Make sure your messaging is tailored to the different target audiences and their sensitivities. 

Who are you? 

You are a strategic, creative communications consultant with a keen sense of social issues and a sharp eye for media and PR. You switch easily between projects, enjoy working with others, and take the initiative. 

You will bring: 

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills in Dutch; 
• Proven experience in developing and implementing communication strategies; 
• An understanding of the social context of our work. Experience with the subject is a plus, but certainly not a requirement.  

What do we offer? 

• A temporary position for 32 hours per week, to cover maternity leave; 
• An employment contract from September 1, 2025, through January 31, 2026; 
• A salary of up to €6,107 gross per month based on a 36-hour workweek (Pay Scale 10 of the Social Work Collective Bargaining Agreement) 
• Competitive benefits package in accordance with the Social Work Collective Bargaining Agreement, including an Individual Choice Budget (ICB) comprising, among other things, 8% vacation pay and 8.3% year-end bonus, 170 vacation hours (based on a 36-hour workweek), and pension contributions through PFZW; 
• Full reimbursement of travel expenses (2nd-class public transportation or mileage allowance up to the tax-deductible maximum); 
• Company-issued laptop, work-from-home policy, and phone expense reimbursement; 
• A pleasant workplace at Nieuwe Prinsengracht 89 in Amsterdam, within walking distance of the Weesperplein metro station.
