Here's what you'll be doing as a Senior Business Controller

For the ComIT department (a combined organization of Commerce and IT), we are seeking a Senior Business Controller who will play a key role in optimizing our financial and strategic objectives for the Core and International business units.

The Core Results Cluster works to achieve NS’s mobility goals by developing station and app services for our passengers. As a controller, you will work closely with IT, Results Leads, and product owners to manage costs, improve efficiency, optimize investments, and serve as the financial point of contact for the core team.

The International Results Cluster aims to double the number of international train trips in the Netherlands by 2030. The role of Senior Business Controller is crucial for understanding and explaining the revenue model, as well as improving results and financial impact in relation to strategic issues.

Thanks to your persuasiveness and entrepreneurial spirit, you are an invaluable asset to:

• Provide financial overviews in the form of reports and budgets for the ComIT management team and other stakeholders
• Developing business cases and investment proposals, monitoring the performance or return on investment (ROI) of specific products, identifying areas for improvement, and deciding whether to cancel them if results fall short.
• Providing proactive advice from the Finance department to identify cost savings and bring them to the attention of stakeholders, while also identifying commercial opportunities and shifts in trends based on the available dashboards and data.
• Serving as the first line of defense regarding financial regulation, compliance, and procurement. Providing advice on products that may be susceptible to fraud and identifying any direct and/or indirect financial risks associated with them.
• Serving as the primary point of contact for the business regarding finance-related questions.

This is where you'll be working

You will work within the ComIT and International Business Control department. The team consists of 8 Business Controllers, including you, with various roles and areas of focus. Together, we are responsible for Business Control for the ComIT and International business units. We are a team that enjoys sharing our knowledge and frequently discusses our work. We embrace new challenges and always strive for improvement. Our key stakeholders are the results and IT leads responsible for the results clusters within ComIT. On a consultancy basis, we step in to support teams within a results cluster when we, as Finance, can add value or when we believe it is necessary to maintain control.

You’ll be working in a close-knit team with a strong sense of commitment to one another and the organization. We’re there for each other when needed and have created an environment where we learn from one another and keep each other on our toes. We do this through regular peer reviews, feedback sessions, and team meetings where you’ll collaborate with the other clusters. We are intrinsically driven to contribute to the success of the department and our areas of focus.

These are the job requirements

• You must have at least a bachelor’s degree in (business) economics, business administration, or another finance-related field.  
• You have at least 5 years of work experience. During those 5 years, you have already gained experience as a Business Controller.
• You are persuasive and, as a result, able to win others over to certain viewpoints, proposals, or ideas while respecting different perspectives.
• You are able to work with others to achieve shared goals in a constructive manner, while valuing different perspectives.
• You are able to take the initiative and/or take effective action on your own.
• You are able to maintain an overview by planning and organizing effectively.
• Your focus is on improving NS’s financial performance by capitalizing on business opportunities and taking calculated risks.

• A salary between €4,190 and €7,015 gross per month (based on a 36-hour workweek).
• A 36-hour workweek.

• A 3% year-end bonus, an 8% vacation allowance, and anexcellent pension plan.
