Responsible use of fertilizers to improve the quality of groundwater and surface water in the Netherlands. As a fertilizer policy officer, you will be working on this timely issue. And we don’t need to tell you that this is high on the political agenda. We are looking for an enthusiastic policy officer who—together with a dynamic team of colleagues—wants to contribute to the further development of fertilizer policy.
The work of the Manure Team is diverse, and there is a strong connection between the various issues the team handles. For example, the team is working on future manure policy and legislation regarding manure production. A key priority is implementing the seventh Nitrates Directive Action Program and the European derogation decision, with the aim of achieving the goals for improving water quality and implementing the measures outlined in the European derogation decision. An eighth Nitrates Directive Action Program is also being developed for the coming years, which will take effect in 2026. Additionally, efforts are underway to improve compliance and reduce the risk of manure-related fraud. In addition, the work has an important European component, as a large part of the regulations is European, and efforts are being made to implement a number of changes, such as the possibility of using fertilizer substitutes produced from animal manure.
What will you be doing? We are looking to strengthen our team with a policy officer who will work flexibly on the topics listed above. The manure issue is subject to significant political and social dynamics. In the coming period, a number of measures will need to be implemented, both through the development of laws and regulations and in consultation with the implementing and enforcement agencies. You will be assigned to various dossiers, prepare administrative consultations, and contribute to letters to Parliament and debates. You can explain complex matters in an accessible way, are a strong writer, and enjoy doing so. You will also have the opportunity to work on European initiatives related to manure policy. We will determine exactly which dossiers you will work on in consultation with you and based on your background and experience.

You have a flexible mindset, are a skilled networker, and know how to get things done.
