The Democracy and Media Foundation (SDM) is

founded by the brave people who, during World War II, were involved in the underground

As a minority shareholder in DPG Media and De

Correspondent monitors the independence and diversity of

journalistic media production. In addition, SDM organizes various (private)

meetings for journalists and media professionals, and encourages

public debate by actively bringing key developments to the forefront. Where necessary

SDM also takes action itself, or invests in initiatives that do so.

About the role

As a senior policy officer for media and technology, you play a key role

in strategic planning and consulting on (the future of) media, with a focus on technological

and digital developments and their impact on an informed society. In addition,

You will be responsible for establishing and maintaining long-term relationships

with relevant organizations, including those that influence policy in

Main Activities

    identify risks in a timely manner and translate them into concrete, actionable (policy) recommendations.

  • Overseeing: supporting the managing director in
  • overseeing the independence and diversity of the titles of

    DPG and De Correspondent.

  • Policy advocacy and stakeholder management: contributing to the further development of a relevant network and strengthening it
  • regarding the position and reputation of SDM within the government, academia, and the media

    and civil society. Forging coalitions to achieve common goals

  • Communication: Assist with translating complex
  • topics into clear messages for various target audiences.

Qualifications

  • Academic level of thinking and work, preferably in media, technology,
  • communication studies or a related field.

  • In-depth knowledge in the field of policy development, research, or
  • consulting in the field of (journalistic) media and technology. At

    preference given to candidates with experience in policy advocacy or consulting at

    government agencies, regulatory bodies, or civil society organizations.

  • Knowledge of current developments at the intersection of media and
  • technology.

  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to process complex information
  • communicate clearly and get others on board.

  • An interest in journalism, media, democracy, and the rule of law.
  • Knowledge of media relations and a broad, versatile network.
  • Excellent command of Dutch and English.

What we offer

  • A 32–40-hour-per-week position (0.8–1.0 FTE) with an employment contract for

  • A salary between €5,500 and €7,000 based on a 40-hour workweek. Salary range
